Has anyone bought ResMed S9 Autoset from American

Post by Laughing Sam » Thu Mar 03, 2011 7:39 am

I have just been using a Respironics System one with C-Flex+ and Humidifier for a week. I seem to be able to tolerate the CPAP quite well. However the specialist today suggested that I should switch over to an APAP machine. He was suggesting something like the ResMed S9 with humidifier. I notice one can get such a machine much much cheaper in the States. Has anyone bought in the States? I would like to learn of their experiences.
Is the warranty in Australia that important?
Any hassels with the difference in Electrical Voltage?
Is it necessary to have heated humidifier and hose?
Is ResMed 9 compatible with a Respironics Easy-Life Mask which I found comfortable ?
I would appreciate folks with experiences and knowledge pointing me in the right direction as it is quite an expensive machine to purchase.

Where are you located?

Yes, humidifier is often suggested. The additional moisture can be very much a wanted comfort feature. While some people can do without it, most people need some form of added moisture in the air.

Any brand mask can be used with the ResMed.

This is a US based forum, so many have indeed bought from US. We also have members from Canada, Australia, Germany and other countries. How much is quite expensive in your area compared to US prices?

It is an excellent machine. ResMed 9 Autoset is 2 means in one. It can do straight cpap mode and APAP mode.
Variable pressure ranges, maybe this is why they have suggested this machine.

Can't help with voltage question. Would help to know where you are.

I'm not familiar with S9 auto set, many here like it. A comparable model is PRSys 1 auto with AFlex. Your current humidifier will work with that model, so you could save some $$ there if it is a consideration. Kathy

This is very true. I wonder why it was not offered since obviously the Respironics machine is being used now. Unless it is a trial use.

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I live in Melbourne Australia.
Yes I am using my present CPAP on a rental basis for a trial. With the Australia dollar in parity with the US greenback, the Resmed S9 retails for more than A$2000 plus $225 for the mask.
I found the Easy-Life mask comfortable. Just wondering if the smaller ResMed hose will attach to the inlet of mask?

I believe that the slimline hose should work with any mask. You may need sort of an adapter. I don't use the ResMed machine but others here do and could probably tell you for sure.

ResMed here in the US has implemented a ban on US suppliers shipping out of the US. So even if you wanted to buy from a US company they are not allowed to ship. At least they aren't supposed to ship outside US. Our host here, cpap.com won't/can't. Maybe another US online supplier might do it if they are under ResMed radar. Should you decide to go that route.

First, G'day mate!

I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years a long time ago on Maher St in the SE suburbs not far from Brighton Beach. Drank a lot of Vic bitter.

Have you considered a DeVilbiss Intellipap Auto with Smart Flex? That's my newest machine and I like it. The manual identifies a power cord that is compatible for use in Australia. Try going to DeVilbissHealthcare.com for more info.

From the ResMed Web site...

"All ResMed CPAP systems have a power supply that automatically adjusts to the various power supplies in different parts of the world. All devices will accept 100-240V, 50-60Hz, without any special adjustment. Please note that you will still need to use the correct adapter for the power supply socket of the country you are visiting."

Looking at the back page of my DeVilbiss manual I noticed the following adress:

Sunrise Medical Pty. Limited
15 Carrington Rd, Unit 7
Castle Hill NSW 2154
61-2-9899-3144

If you think the DeVilbiss stuff will fit your needs, there's someone in country that apparently handles it.

I may be corrected, any any equipment can fail, but the main disadvantage in purchasing overseas will the the lack of warranty.
I think the ResMed equipment is very reliable so this may be a risk worth taking.
If you can find a contact in America I expect the cost will be less than half our Australian price of $2400, although it may be obtainable for about $2000 if you shop around in Melbourne. If you purchase overseas you probably won't be able to claim any medical insurance in Australia, but this is probably only $500.
American ResMed machines don't as standard come with the heated hose, or the better water tank, but these can be obtained from the same source in the US. I would strongly recommend the heated hose.

you can not buy Resmed cpap from cpap.com and shipped outside US that is Resmed policy but probably you can get other cpap brands .
check cpap prices at cpapaust, cpap connect , and other cpap sellers as you might be able to get the mask to be included in the price .
cpapaust has an ofice in victoria at 29 victoria parade ,collingwood (1300692727) ,their advertised price for the S9 auto set ,H5i humidifier and the climate line AD 1995 (1495 for the elite package ) and if you subscribe to their newsletter you get 10% discount on your order .
Resmed ( http://www.sleepvantage.com.au ) give you the benefit of free 50% extended warranty .
cheers.

That's pretty close to full RRP, you can get it for significantly less if you try.......
.... and there might be better prices than that around if you spend some time with Google (or similar).

Cheers,

Bill
