Going from FF Mask to Nasal or Prong Interface

Post by divajojo » Thu Apr 07, 2005 11:55 am

I'd like to hear from any of you out there who have gone from using a FF mask (I have an Ultra MirageFF) to using a nasal mask or even the prong/pillow interfaces (like Swift, I think). I'd like to hear your successes or failures, recommendations for masks, etc.

Here's the story, I've been on BiPAP for a week and my prescription pressure is 13I/17E. I'm handling the pressure okay, but my mask leaks when it gets to the Px pressure. While ramping it's fine, but it can't handle the higher pressure that I require. I'm still trying to work with it, but I got the suggestion to consider trying a nasal interface (am I using the term right? I'm talking about the activa and swift type masks).

Appreciate your feedback.

My pressure goes to 14.5 and I am using the Aura. I had the same problems that you did with the Ultra Mirage FF mask. High pressure meant lots o leaks... I bought a chin strap and I am sleeping better now as I am not waking up to fix leaks... YMMV

nasal interfaces

The Activa is a mask. For me, it leaked at a pressure of 16/12. I think it didn't fit my face well.

I've tried a number of different prong/pillow interfaces: the Breeze, the Swift, the Aura, the Infinity, and the Comfort Lite Direct Seal. Although everyone has their own favorite for various reasons, I find the Breeze to be the most comfortable, especially for a beginner who is not used to having something sticking into his nose. Be gentle with the Breeze's headgear, though.
