This newbies first experience,really good

Post by Organplayer » Sun Jul 22, 2007 12:51 pm

Well, my DME came yesterday and brought me the equipment. Instead of getting a Resmed escape, I got an Elite instead. Was really excited. She brought me 5 masks to try, so we landed on the Mirage Quattro. It felt good and sealed nicely. She must have spent two hours with me, talking about the features and adjustments I can make. My dogs eyed me nervously when I put it on, but they proceeded to go back to sleep themselves. She said if the mask does not work, then she would work with me to find the one. Very heartening.

Slept all night. Felt really good. Started paying off my sleep debt. This musician is happy to be on the CPAP road. Better than the alternatives.

Thanks to all who gave advice. Its nice to find a home.

Peace and bellbottoms,
Kevin

Nice to hear you had such a great DME experience Kevin! I'm glad you got your machine and mask of choice and a good night's sleep

I think that's all any of us really want...

CONGRATULATIONS, Kevin!!!! Sounds like you got one of those rareties: a GOOD local DME and RT!

Enjoy the sleep and the rest!!!!

By the way: if you are curious before noon each day you can press the Left and the Right button and hold them for 3-4 seconds and you will see Efficacy Data appear in your easy to read, good size LED screen. Press the Left button again and you will see that night's 95th percentile pressure .... the button use is pretty self-explanatory from there on.

Don't worry, this is just an advanced patient menu they may or may not have given you access to. You can't upset any of your therapy settings. The reason you have to do this before noon is because these machines work on an internal, 24 hour, noon to noon clock. After noon the data is all transferred to the averages data (weekly, monthly, 6 months and one year - after you've used your CPAP that long).

You'll be able to access your 95th percentile leak rate, AHI, AI and HI for that night as well. And the total number of hours you've used your machine, total number of nights you used it and total number of hours used that night.

Have fun!

Kev, I'm jealous man!! I live outside Atlanta, GA too and my first week was hell. Terrible DME experience....actually fired them exactly one week from the day I started.

Going to see new DME tomorrow to get my new equipment.

Who are you using??

Nancy et al,

I live in Snellville (where everybody is somebody). My DME is Lincare and my Rt shall remain ALL MINE.

I still have much to learn about this stuff, but a good first experience really helps. I am sorry for your bad experience. This is already hard work for us and to have a bad experience does not help.

Kevin

Kevin - I live about 30 minutes from Snellville, but my doctor and designated hospital are Emory Eastside. Also, my mother-in-law lives in Snellville, so I'm there often. I'm guessing you did your sleep study in the Heritage building? If so, were they fast getting results back to you? Actually, how fast was it from the time you went to the first study till you got your cpap? What insurance company do you have?

I'm heading to the titration study this evening at Eastside, and wondering how long it will be before I get a machine. I am about to change insurance companies, and am worried about getting good equipment on my good insurance before I have to switch over.

Chontraulations, Kevin! You're off to a great start and you got a pretty good machine. Sounds like your RT and DME are excellent as well! I wish mine had spent that amount of time with me on the first visit. Glad your first night was a success!

Congratulations!!!

I noticed you mentioned dogs. While I don't have any, I have read on the forum about other people's dogs eating their masks and cats chewing holes in their hoses.

You seemed to have a fabulous experience and I'm so glad you had a good first night's sleep!

My sleep tech was helpful and helped me try on many masks to find the one I could tolerate during titration. I think this helped me choose my first mask and led to me to being able to actually put it on that first night. My RT suggested I try the Mirage Vista that has become my favorite mask. And, it is this forum, that helps me keep it on night after night.

Yeah its an old thread but thats okay.
Eastside Heritage is fast with their interpretations. Mine done on Sunday and read on Tuesday. I harassed my pcp and got it fast so Eastside was not the holdup, the insurance was.

Sleep techs are great there.

Good luck and Godspeed.
We can meet in Snellville sometime, "where everybody is somebody" (town slogan.)

Kevin

So Organplayer, I take it your dogs haven't eaten your hose over the last month of use? : )

They run from it. Turn it on and they are out of there. Of course, it did not help that my son aimed the hose at them and they got a whoosh of air when I first got it.

Cat likes the exhaust air to blow on her. Now that's strange.

Kevin
achieved the 1.0 AHI last night and can feel it.
