question about humidifier

Post by wkosturko » Wed Jul 18, 2007 2:13 pm

Seems like water usage in my humidifier varies greatly. 1 night it barely uses any water, while the next night it runs almost empty. I do not change the setting on the heat, and I seem to have a normal sleeping pattern. Do you think there is a problem, or is this normal.

Personally, I would guess this is a problem. My water use is very, very consistent. I notice this because I have mine set at max (5) and it is nearly gone every morning. If I happen to get in 10 hours of sleep on the weekend it IS gone. But if I'm sleeping the same amount, the same amount is always there in the morning.

I would contact whomever you got it from and ask for a replacement. I don't know what the warranty is on these things, but i'm guessing it is 3 years.

Might be caused by mouth breathing causing extra air volume being used, or mask leakage, do you have a means to check this, like the applicabilities to check this, software, reader,

Good point, Hurricane. I forgot about that--if my tape is forgotten or comes off (rare now) this uses more water. If you wear nasal-only you might wish to address mouth leaks.

You can bet on mouthleaking, the extra moisture goes out of your mouth along with your treatment pressure. Jim

socknitster, just for your information and acording to Respironics, the CPAP has a 2 year warranty, the humidifier has only 1 year and the humidifier chamber has only a 90 day warranty.

wkosturko,

Like you, I have a Respironics M series cpap with integrated humidifier. Mine uses almost exactly the same amount of water every night.

I'm a relative cpap newbie, but it's hard for me to imagine that mouth breathing some nights and not others would fully account for the variation in your humidifier's water usage.

I guess better safe than sorry - get a humidifier exchange under the warranty while you still can.

Good luck to you!
