Some people wanted to know my opinions on these two things. EDIT: Reviews now up.

I am considering the hans rudolph full face mask for those times my sinuses don't want to play well with others.

Was the sizing instructions accurate for your purchase? I measure my face and it seems to read 6 inches (bridge of nose between eyes to bottom edge of chin). That seems to exceed the large size 5.5-5.0 inches.

I am tempted to purchase the "calipers" Hans Rudolph sells, just to make sure. I know of a site that charges $14.00 for them, but then gives you a $14.00 credit against any purchase later.

I also noticed you purchased the alternative head gear. If I only plan on "seasonal" use for this mask (when we are cutting hay), do you think the stock head gear would hold up?

Thanks in advance

Cliff

Using the measurment procedures I found on another site, I measured for a full small. I then ordered the mask on cpap.com and purchased the insurance. Boy, I am glad I did. The small was way to big. So did an exchange for the extra small. This mask fits great.

With my issues in getting it right, I think the calipers would have been a good purchase.

My reviews are now up.

Cliff,

No, I don't think you will be happy with the headgear it comes with. Maybe Europeans are infinitely more patient than Americans, but I don't think the standard headgear should even be sent--worthless.

If you can get the calipers purchase to go towards your mask purchase, i would recommend it. It is a good mask whose biggest problem is people ordering the wrong size.

I have a size medium that I paid full price for on cpap.com that was too big for me. I only wore it for less than half hour, if anyone wants to buy it from me, make an offer. I can disinfect it for you--see my other review! Jen

I wanted to put out an update on my experience with this mask:

At lower pressures I was having trouble with the anti-asphixia valve "pulsing" open and closed during exhale and inhale. It shouldn't do that and made the mask very distracting and I was concerned about safety. Very frustrating to find a full face that finally fits and then develop an unusual problem like this!

That said, Hans Rudolph is coming out with a new version of this mask this fall, ostensibly to correct any problems like this.

I didn't have this problem at pressures around 10-16 but did at pressures 6-9 cm water.

I was really hoping to use this post-op after my tonsilectomy and was dismayed and irritated that it wasn't possible. Will continue to explore this issue. I may shoot an email about it to the manufacturer. They have already agreed to let me test drive the new hans rudolph when it arrives on the market.

OK,

Another update:

A very generous and kind Aussie who heard I liked my size small Hans Rudolph sent me a size XSMALL and I finally had the energy to clean it and give it a go today. Since my machine is now in the living room, I put it on and watched tv for 1/2 hour. WOW! I thought my size small fit well but I was WRONG! The XSML fits PERFECTLY. Like it was made for me! And it didn't do that weird pulsing thing that I noted before, which I'm now wondering is because I was so drugged up I couldn't get the mask that "almost fit" to seal properly.

I still have to wear it all night to be able to give more info, but hey--this is promising stuff. I am so surpised. I am a 6 foot tall woman with a large frame. I'm a little overweight, so I'm shocked that I would need an xsml--these things run very, very large.

And I know people are put off by the straps that come around "the eyes" but they don't touch the skin and don't block vision too much--how could I watch tv otherwise--and comfortably, I might add.

It is funny, how low my standards are for masks--the size small almost fit and I raved about it--because I had never known anything that had fit better than THAT! But now I am surprised by how much more comfy this one seemed! The true test will be tonight, of course. I'll keep you informed, as usual.
