New to CPAP's

Post by sleeplessinidaho » Mon Apr 04, 2005 9:22 am

I was wondering if I could get some info. from everyone. I have been through my sleep studies and now need to get a CPAP. Any advice on which machine to get?? I travel 6-10 weeks out of the year and have a light sleeper for a wife (don't know how she has been dealing with the snoozing as long as she has). The C-flex REMstars seems the way to go. I found some of the masks during the titration study VERY restrictive. Here in Idaho our humidity is real low, I believe I will need a heated humidifier. Any insight from any long term suffers will be appreciated.

Thanks

hello sleepless,
The remstar with cflex is what I am using now and I don't think it could be any quieter, I do like it. As far as masks in my opinion they are all going to be uncomfortable but you have to find one you can tolerate. Its not easy and its not fun but its what those of us in our condition have to get used to dealing with. As for humidifier I personally don't like the heat on but most will reccomend it. it almost seems too warm to me at times. Good luck and stick with it, most will tell you its not an easy adjustment but a few will use it as if they've been on it their whole life. So hopefully you'll fall in to that category..

If you want something small for traveling, the Puritan Bennett 420 series only weigh about 1.5 pounds. The autopap is the 420E, while the straight cpap is the 420G. My first pap machine was the 420G. Love it for traveling. The PB 420 machines do not have c-flex, so if you want the c-flex feature, you'll need the RemStar Plus, Pro or auto. I am currently using the RemStar auto with c-flex as my "everynight" machine, although I still use the PB 420 for travel.

I have a 420E as my sole APAP and use it travelling. I generally travel by airplane about 20 times per year. I have been on my 420E for about a month now. I have the heated humidifier, but leave it at home when travelling. The APAP is light, works just fine in hotel rooms and at home and has a nice carrying case. It goes along with me into the cabin and doesn't count as a carryon. No problems, to date, with airport security, either.

I especially like the software that can be purchased with the 420E. It is very user friendly and has a wealth of information.

Finally, I use the Ultra Mirage FF mask and love it now that I've got it adjusted properly and the hose hung over the head of the bed.

Everyone has their favorite......but mine is the 420E (with software), Ultra Mirage FF mask and the humidifier.

If you get facial irritation from the mask, get the Sleep EZ CPAP Anti Irritation strips...they work great... CG Labs 817-279-1945
