During the sleep study, the tech came out with 3 types of masks for me - nasal pillow, full face, and nose mask. I briefly tried all of them but after being new to this for only one week, I now find it comical that they didn't spend more time with me on mask fitting/selection. I ended up with Optilife Nasal Pillow. It seems to work ok but it kills my nose, or more specifically, the area just below my nose. I ordered a Ultra Mirage FFM to try. It killed my cheeks and I couldn't get it to stop leaking. I liked it better than the nasal pillows though. Luckily I bought return insurance but I can't keep spending that kind of money to sample new masks. I not too interested in roulette.
To my question - How accurate is the CPAP.COM face mask measurement system. I did it and then printed all all of the masks that would fit me. I was surprised that not a single nasal mask was on the list. Should I keep on looking? Thanks.

Sounds to me like you had it WAY too tight.Pirateghost wrote:During the sleep study, the tech came out with 3 types of masks for me - nasal pillow, full face, and nose mask. The sizing chart worked for me (2 years ago) when selecting the UMFF. My measurement came out halfway between the Medium and Large. I selected the Large and was glad I did.
I have never tried ANY nasal masks.

Pirate, I think CPap.com has 'mask insurance' or soemthing like that- I believe you can try a mask for 30 days, and if it doesn't work out, or is wrong size or something, I think you can exchange it- but I'm not totally sure- make sure you read the site over well- they seem like a reaally decent company- they even have a place where you can ask quesitons I beleive
I use the Ultra myself- it's a pretty good mask, but really hurts the bridge of my nose- but when it begins to hurt, I simply move mask up or down a slight bit, and that is sufficient to relieve hte pain- After time, it hurts less- There seems to be a fien line between too loose, and too tight- not much room for margin of error- but I have had pretty good luck with it other than the nose pain and leaking when I move my head too much- One thing a tech told me was to keep the head angled back when laying on back- this tightens hte maks- Also the adjustment on the forhead piece will help relieve pressure spots to a certain degree, but will also loosen the seal a bit- but just play with the settings on the forhead piace, see what happens.

Sure I backed over the Vampire Officer, But I swear I never saw him in my rearview mirror
Also pirate- Some DME's will allow you to exhange masks if one doesn't fit right- I know Lincare has such a policy, and htey are a national company in many cities/towns- they allow you to try a mask for a certain amount of time, and if it doesn't work, they'll exchange it- Not sure if they charge a small fee- not really sure how it works, but I'm going to be exchanging my mask for an Oracle Oral mask with Lincare- We'll see how that goes.
