Sometimes if I have a bad night of sleeping I have really terrible dreams. It feels as if somone I know is talking right to me and telling me negative things.
I wonder, is this due to a lack of O2 ?
I imagine the negative parts of my dreams are just my own inner voice.
Before I knew I had a sleeping disorder these bad dreams would drive me crazy. I even complained about neighbors that were waking me up on purpose and you can imagine what kind of headaches that caused for myself.
horrible vivid dreams
Re: horrible vivid dreams
Typically one who’s suffering of sleep apnea is experiencing fewer dreams. That’s the pattern. I remember myself in pre-CPAP time. It was no dreams at all. Sort of you are in constant night fog, and you can never wake up fresh. But no dreams. When I have started CPAP my dreams came back to me (almost forgotten sensation).
What about you folks?

I am now dreaming, many are so strange and remind me of the dreams I had when I was a child..Before CPAP I would have the dreams of drowning and wake up sweating and gasping for breath..Funny thing is all my other doctors told me I was having mental problems causing the drowning dreams
I mentioned the dreams to my new doc (a Naval Flight surgeon) and she had me go in for the sleep study, she knew right away what was causing them..

Bad dreams
Andyomega,
There's been dream discussions on here before, and as it seems with all things, there's a wide variety of experiences.
For me, the bad dreams were when I was still having apnea spells. Rarely have a real bad one now, although I dream a lot - even every time I doze off briefly (several times a day). At one point I was having dreams about dying, but haven't had one of those for over a year.
Are you on any medications that could cause this side effect? When I was on Sinemet (a Parkinson's med also used for sleep movements), I had vivid bad dreams a lot. If I drank caffiene, took cold medicine, or ate something that interfered with my medicine, I'd have a long torturous night stuck in a semi-sleep state with my mind raging and body thrashing. It was horrible. Haven't had that happen to that degree since I changed meds.
As for low oxygen, a friend of mine hallucinated and her doc said it was due to low oxygen. She saw giant spiders on the wall. UGH!
It can be scary even going to sleep when expecting to be frightened. Effective cpap treatment and checking meds for side effects are all I can think of. Hope your bad dreams resolve soon.
