ComfortGel Masks

I wonder if anyone using the ComfortGel mask has problems with it hurting the bridge of the nose - is there a way to adjust it?

I use the comfort gel mask successfully. I am wondering what part of the mask hurts the bridge of your nose? I wear a petite size and the bottom of the silicone flap sits about a quarter to a half an inch below the actual bridge of my nose. I sometimes adjust that piece while the mask and machine are on by slightly lifting it at the bridge and sliding my finger down the silicone overlay. That seems to tighten up the seal.

Do you use the adjustment just above the bridge of the mask? That is very helpful.

There are directions in the package for custon fitting the gel insert. I does work! I had the same problem and that is how I alieviated it.

I've had ton's of problems with the dis-comfortgel mask, sounds like the same issue you have. I got big red marks across the bridge of my nose, after a few days it turned to a blister.

I tried playing around with the silicon to get a better fix, never had much luck. That's why I'm now patiently waiting for my ultra mirage to arrive.

I am using a ComfortGel mask and have not had any such problems. Having regard to comments relating to the Activa I suspect the ComfortGel is sort of similar in that the main difficulty with fitting the mask is adjusting the headgear to get the right tension so that the mask's cushion is sealed but not squashed too tightly. I would therefore suggest trying to very slightly reduce the tension on the head gear until leakage occurs and then only very slightly retensioning to eliminate the leak.

sleepygalpa, those are very good suggestions from people that particular mask works well for. Everyone's face/nose is different - a mask that works well for some is a nightmare for others. The first mask I ever had was the ComfortGel...didn't work well on my face no matter how I adjusted it. I worked with it for a solid 3 months.

Since then I've found masks that are far more comfortable and less leaky - for me - not necessarily for someone else. If you decide to try a different mask and want to stick with a nasal mask (covers the nose), ResMed's Activa in a shallow works great for me. I also like the nasal pillows interfaces like the Aura, Breeze, and Swift....no contact with bridge of nose at all with nasal pillows interfaces. However, some don't like the contact at the nostril openings that you get with nasal pillows. Everyone's mask mileage varies - that's for sure.

I think restedgal is right on this...it's important to try to make things work, and recognize when that solution is just not right for your face.

I really like the nasal pillows too...great solution in my opinion!

Try the new Sleep EZ CPAP Anti Irritation Strips...they work great ....dont have the bridge of my nose problems that I used to have or the irritation on my face from my face mask...co name is CG Labs their number there is 817-279-1945...

RG, do you find that the Activa does "push ups" on your face because of the way the seal is designed? I am a heartbeat away from ordering one (all of a sudden, I have a King's ransom in masks) but when I viewed the video of it in action on ResMed's website, I had a concern about this. I have the F&P HC431 ff mask and it does push ups on my face which keeps me awake. This is JerryR just in case my post shows up as "Guest" again - don't know why that happens. Thanks.

Yes, Jerry, the Activa does do "push-ups", pulsating in and out as you breathe. Oddly, it seems to do that more at the beginning of each night and for me, anyway, is doing it much less so (sometimes not at all) by morning.

The "push ups" effect is too annoying to some. To me, it was worth getting used to for the advantage of a virtually leakproof seal and being able to wearing straps almost floppy loose. In nasal masks, dealing with leaks always bothered me a lot more than the movement of the Activa. I've never used the F&P HC 431 FF mask, so I don't know how the movement you mention that one having compares to the Activa. Activa definitely does push ups.

Thanks for the info RG. I still think I'll give it a try. The straps on the F&P HC405 just have to be WAY too tight to stop the leaks. I appreciate your response. I'm determined to find the right machine/mask combo in order to be compliant. Of course, it may bankrupt me in the process!
