First week on CPAP Auto

Post by oceanpearl » Mon Jun 25, 2007 5:48 am

Not being the most computer literate person around, I would like to email the Encore PDF file to someone and have them comment and give their thoughts.
Thanks

My plan is to now switch masks for a week and see what those numbers look like.

Doctor has me on 20/10. The problem that I see on the chart is that most of my night is spent around 10.5 and I am thinking that maybe I should try a 8/14 setting.
I just want to go back to sleep!

90% Autp CPAP 13.1
Average Autp CPAP 11.1
AHI 2.8
Large Leak 5.5 Mins. 3.2% of night
Average Leak 21.78

CHART SHOWS DAILY EVENT's PER HOUR.

50 min at of 13
29.5 % of night
Flow Limitation 1.2
Vibratory Snore 1.2
Non-Responsive Apnea/Hypoppena 0.0
Obstructive Apnea 1.2
Hypopnea 0.0
AHI 1.2

I was titrated at 14, but it looks as if all the numbers are better at 13.
At 14 AHI was 17.1
At 12 AHI was16.0
At 13 AHI was 1.2
Any comments??
I am wondering why the auto didn't hold at 13.
Should I switch from autp to straight CPAP set at 13??

I just want to go back to sleep!

keep it where it is at, machine seems to be working fine with the current settings, numbers look good.

Some nights you may need more pressure, others less. If your reports consistently say your sleep becomes a train wreck at higher pressure then you could limit it from going that high by lowering the maximum pressure setting.

I don't see that as a problem...the fact that your prescribed setting range is 10 minimum and 20 maximum and that you are spending most of the night around 10.5. It's obviously needing to use a tad more that just 10, so it sounds like 10 for the minimum is fine for you. All the unused "space" up to 20 doesn't matter either. I'd leave it like it is.

I am wondering why the auto didn't hold at 13.
It went higher to treat an event. It may have been an apnea or hypop or snore that didn't respond at a pressure of 13. The Auto will increase the pressure to treat events. That's the whole idea of the auto. I think it raises the pressure by increments of .5 until the event is stopped. Then it works it's way back down again so you can have a lower pressure and be more comfortable.

Thanks all.
I was fortunate enough to have someone from here look at my Encore file and make some comments, which I am following. They were nice enough to take the time and I won't name them here for obvious reasons.
Last night I slept downstairs in the den (which doesn't have sunlight streaming in) and was able to sleep for a little over 10 hours.
Set the machine to 13.5/8.5 on Auto and slept with Comfort Full 2 mask.
Woke up at about 3 when the mask started leaking, cleaned the mask and my face and went back to sleep.

Results for the night
Avg AutoCPAP 10.6
AHI 1.6
Non'Responsive Apnea 0.0
Obtrucrive Apnea 0.9
Hypopnea 0.9
Large Leaks 0.0
Average Leak 21.02
Vibratory Snore 12.0

Thank GOD for this forum!!!

Last night machine set on auto at 13.5/ 8.5
On machine time was 7 hrs 55 min.
AVERAGE AUTO CPAP 11.90% AUTO CPAP 13.4
LARGE LEAK 0.0
AVERAGE LEAK 19.9
COMFORT FULL MASK
AHI 5.6
OS 3.6
HYPO 0.O

With the realization that AHI of zero is a goal, how does 5.6 stack up with some of you???

You want to get the AHI under 5. Anything under 5 is considered normal. Just one night doesn't really mean much. Everyone has bad nights. Get a weeks worth of #s and see what's going on.

I have never aimed for - nor achieved - an AHI of 0, but I also never feel very good if my AHI approaches 3 or higher. There are formal definitions, and there is how you feel.

I'ld stick to one pressure setting for a week or two, unless it made me clearly miserable. And I would only caculate averages by week - or weeks -in a specific range. An average based on different ranges - doesn't give much useful info.

I also would not change both mask and pressure settings at them same time.

I am confused.
Night a 90% is 13
Night b 90% is 12
Night c 90% is 14
Does this make sense??

Does to ME......

Short answer: Your needs change from night to night and the amount of time at different pressures is reflected in the percentages.
