Mask Strategies

Post by stages3n4 » Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:45 pm

I have found a way to help acclimate myself to wearing the mask. I decided to go and rent every WWII movie that has to do with aviation, preferably high altitude flying. This may be more of a guy thing, but growing when I would watch these movies, I always thought how cool it was that these pilots were flying in such dangerous conditions that they had to wear masks and bring their own air to survive.

Some of the movies I have come up with are “Twelve O’Clock High”; I’m sure I have to look as cool as Gregory Peck looked in his mask! Then, you have John Wayne in “Island in the Sky”; of course, Duke spends most of his time stranded on the ground in the artic circle, but it’s fun to see James Arness in a role other than Matt Dillon. They only spent “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” yes, but hours of fun mask time to get them there.

You could of course move up to cold war times, and watch Dr. Strangelove, but the mask wearer in this movie is Slim Pickens, and while I probably look a lot closer to Slim in my mask than I do to Gregory Peck, I prefer to see myself in the Gregory Peck mode. Another downside to this movie is one may start worrying a little too much precious bodily fluids.

Anyway, there is one of my handy coping strategies, rent aviation movies and then when you strap on your mask at night, you join the countless heroes who fought for the American way of life!

Of course, when you look at my equipment (get out of the gutter, I mean the ones listed below) and see that I use a nasal pillow system, maybe I should be renting chick flicks dealing with hospital scenes and oxygen tubes up the nose. But then, wanting to personally avoid living one of scenes is why we’re doing this, isn’t it?

I love those strategies. I joke with my kids that I've got a Darth Vader mask now (I'm a big Sci Fi freak). I wonder what it would look like if I wore my son's DV mask LOL!!!!! He's got the cape to go with it too.

I love Halloween so it wouldn't be too far fetched for me either Hey, whatever motivates you to continue treatment!

Happy Sleeping!

Linda
