New Phillips dream station, please help.

Post by Bfritts » Sun Apr 21, 2024 1:02 pm

Long story, so 15 years ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and done the study and got a CPap machine and used it for years. Fast forward 10 years I got an email saying I should stop using the machine due to it being linked to cancer….,so I stop using it with no problems. About a year later they send me a new machine and set it to auto because I didn’t have or know my prescription and the records had been destroyed due to time. Anyway, I thought this would be fine and started to use the machine and the longer I used it the worse I slept, I’m currently at the stage of having hypopnea that I’ve never had before. I can’t sleep and have anxiety about going to sleep. I’m currently having a new sleep study done, I’ve had the first test but waiting on the second which is still a month away.
I saw online that I can adjust my machine, it’s currently set in auto and the range is 4-20
Any help would be appreciated, should I turn it up on the low side to maybe 6 and should I change it from auto to CPap? I wake up with the current settings gasping for air and it has developed into waking up gasping for air even without the machine….I’ve e never had this before starting with the new machine…

Move the min. setting to 7 for a few days or a week and see how it's going - most can't breathe at 4 any time. And if you're back-sleeping, try side sleeping and see if the hypops improve.

You're a long-term user... you should know what feels good. When you start too low the machine waits for you to start having problems, then it pumps you up. The problem there is that you're already having problems... you want your min pressure to be above that point. They sent you a new machine... they didn't even bother telling you how to get the pressures off your old machine. That, IMO, is criminal neglect. I suppose that old machine is long gone now?

Now that you've used your auto machine a few nights we can examine your sleep graphs and help you decide on a pressure range. Does your machine have an SD card? If so, upload it to SleepHQ and we can take a look. The free trial/mode of SHQ only lets you have one machine or I'd suggest you load your old SD card into it if you have it around... probably long gone too.

SleepHQ is a website where you put your sleep data 'into the cloud' and examine it breath-by-breath... you can also share links anonymously to a nights' hi-res data. Oscar is a free open-source program that also lets you examine your sleep data in hi-res... but you can only share screenshots of it. If you have your old machine and SD card the settings can be found using Oscar, download at www.sleepfiles.com/oscar .
