Feel better with worse graphs

Post by slowmo2000 » Mon Apr 08, 2024 7:35 am

Hi all,

Another question for the group: does anyone feel better with worse Oscar graphs (a bit more jagged breathing vs flat breathing lines)? I've been trying to dial in my treatment and was tinkering with pressure, EPR, taping. I've noticed that when I was on EPR3 (pressure 12), I would get these really nice and flat graphs (at least for the first half of the night) but a ton of centrals, more events overall, and much lighter sleep after hours 5/6.

I've since increased the pressure to 13 and dialed back EPR to 2 and my number events of events have come down, I'm sleeping longer more soundly and feel better but my graphs look a bit more ragged. I'm guessing overall events down is really what's driving how I'm feeling but I'm wondering if there's a path to getting events down further and getting nice and flat lines, which would equal feeling even more energetic?

Diminishing returns at some point. I'm doing insane pressures (17-21 PS4) and getting the best O2 and FL graphs ever... but now I'm fighting aerophagia and mask leaks (now I understand when folks complain about the Vitera headgear). I was titrated to these pressures in a lab by a tech, btw. O2 and sleep quality is the main goal... vivid dreams? Good! Don't go nuts chasing zeros.

Good context. Luckily, I've never been a huge desat person - just a ton of reras/fragmented sleep when not on CPAP. I'm getting mild aerophagia at 13 but trying to pick my battles in terms of what to figure out/solve next.

If your AHI and sleep quality are good, you can count your fine-tuning as a complete success. Don't worry about how your graphs look.

Feel better with worse graphs
Then, fine-tune for bad graphs.

Seriously, the goal is to feel energetic without excess sleepiness during the day. The goal is not to have pretty graphs.

Sounds like you have learned and are well on the way to long-term successful CPAP therapy.
