Re: BiPAP was working amazingly and then stopped

Somehow I totally missed this response. Ironically I've learned a lot what you said here in the past month and things have improved. Not as good as I was doing in the beginning, that was the OSCAR chart with the 0.69 AHI I had initially posted, but better. I was on BiPAP because I wasn't able to to...

Re: How to Troubleshoot & Improve Leak Performance?

My next step is going to be to try using a smaller piece of tape over the center of my lips to see if I can get away with a more minimal "non-hostage" taping format. :) See that rising leak thing at 05:20? That's mouth leaking, your tape job failed I believe. You were having some nice REM and got t...

Re: Seeking information for making a decision for UARS treatment

(SNIP) I struggle to breathe at night because my nasal airways just feel so narrow, it’s worse at around 3AM and during REM sleep which is when most of my night sweats start. I just thought it was a blood sugar crash from adrenal fatigue but i now know better. I also get nasal congestion every nigh...

Re: How to Troubleshoot & Improve Leak Performance?

I hadn't looked at my OSCAR data until now. And now that I have had a chance to look at it, it is clear that the mouth taping did work for most of the night. (snip) Again, for those that are long time mouth tapers, how do you deal with things that cause discomfort or inconvenience when your mouth i...

Re: CPAP recommendation (DS1 alternative)

There is no AirCurve 11. There is now. Aircurve 11 was probably always planned but perhaps enough people are using Airbreak to add functionality. Resmed can probably phase out the 10 now. How long did it take for the 9 to phase out or was that not sold alongside the 10? When I went in for my recent...

Re: My experience with mouth taping and related solutions, and further advice

I had a skin injury the other day from Cover Roll removal (I did fold the corner). This morning I tried wetting the tape before removal... this works really well... just let it be wet for a minute or two, then start working the jaw and lips. You can feel the water soak through, then it removes easily.

Re: Battery Backup solution for Resmed S9 with H5i

Guessing your machine takes 24 volts like my Resmed AS10. That's basically two car batteries in series, 12v each. You'll need to have those batteries charged up... you can parallel them to charge them if they're decently matched (e.g. brand new). Amazon sells 7ah batteries that will give you 1 amp f...

At any rate your machine is set to 4-20 wide open.
No it is NOT set to wide open. You are incorrect. Please see my response above.
Thanks for the clarification... I was looking at the initial settings... which *are* 'wide-open' and not something to run with for a while.

Re: AHI under control, still feel terrible

So I kept the settings the same last night. Had to get up to pee and didn't feel like I was able to sleep well past that point. Machine went down to 4 again because of the ramp setting, and for some reason my mouth would fill up with air at times even though I had it taped up. AHI went up a bit and...

Re: High pressure, empty tank every night, dry eyes

(snip) Why cant I just have a small pump transfer water from the jug into the humidifier when it drops below a certain level, and have it stop at the fill line? Pumps, water level sensors, and tubing are all well understood in industry and easy to source. The control system is trivial. Why has no C...

Re: High pressure, empty tank every night, dry eyes

I think you are a candidate for the Bleep Eclipse system... it is a nasal pillows-type mask but uses magnets and tape-on metal washers to *absolutely eliminate* leaks. It is not expensive at first, but the ongoing costs are more than a regular mask, what with the single-use tape-on magnetic pieces. ...

Also known as a suicide cord for good reason, and no mention of a transfer switch. Do it right or don't do it.
When in extremis, do what you have to do. Do not attempt unless you know WTF.

Re: Feeling short of breath while turning over in bed.

I’ve been using a CPap machine now for about 4 1/2 years. For about the past three years, when turning over in bed, I feel short of breath. I open my mouth to exhale once or twice and then I’m fine. (snip) This is a great technique for nasal and pillows masks if you're feeling de-satted... and you ...

Re: ResMed AirSense10 and generator

Living in Texas the last few years we got some uncharacteristic freezes which left us without power for days. The first 'Great Freeze' I had a small gasoline generator on hand that saved my butt... a Honda EU2000i (about 1000$). This is a very quiet, efficient, and good for electronics generator, pu...
