mask flexing
Hi--I'm just starting to use a CPAP machine. I'm currently using a ResMed AirFit F20 mask, size Large. The problem I have is when I try to fall
asleep and breathe out. The mask slightly flexes on the sides and makes it hard for me to relax and fall asleep. Any Suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: mask flexing
It’s normal. That’s why the material is flexible. Enjoy it. Use it as a way of being mindful of your breath to relax and fall asleep.

The F20 is the most popular Full Face mask. Are you sleeping on your side?

Re: mask flexing
What are your pressure settings?
Are you using any exhale relief?
There may be a way to reduce the inflation/deflation thing that you find annoying but we need to know your settings and whether or not you are using exhale relief and at what setting if you are.

Re: mask flexing
Flexing of the mask is normal.
It has no effect on function, but can be a distraction if you let it.
Don't let it.
You will learn to ignore it.
Perhaps turning off the lights will help.

Re: mask flexing
Like Froggie said, hopefully, you'll get used to it. If you had your mask (cushion) jammed into your face, you'd probably have crazy leak rates and side affects (marks on the face, possibly sore teeth and sore nose... around the bridge area.... etc..). To me, when my mask flexes, it tells me that I'm close to my "sweet spot" on my mask adjustment. Not too tight and not too loose. Be sure you fill your mask cushion with air before strapping on the mask. Especially after restroom breaks in the night.
In the Cpap world, it seems like we are required to "get used to" a lot of things. Hopefully you can get pass this issue.

Re: mask flexing
This is good to hear that mask flex is normal. I am having the same issue and was wondering if this should happen.
I use Airtouch F20 mask. I’m also having trouble figuring out how tight the mask should be. I looked at videos etc, but still am having problems. If I tighten it to where I’m comfortable it seems to start leaking in the middle of night. I guess due to facial muscles relaxing. I then need to tighten it until the leak stops; however, in the morning I have marks on my face. No sores and no pain just light red marks. Is this normal too?
My mask has the foam cushion which is the most comfortable one I could find so far. I just can’t seem to find the right spot where I can fall asleep and stay asleep without the mask leaking during the night. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: mask flexing
Cloth (Sleepweaver) masks flex the most.
The Elan felt like wearing a handkerchief on my face.
Tricky to wear, but sooo comfy . . .

Re: mask flexing
Are the marks caused by the cushion or the straps? If the straps are causing the marks, try strap pads. My wife and I both use strap pads from Padacheek. Karen, the owner, is a CPAP user and a member of this forum. Her products are all very well made.

Thanks! I checked out padacheek. I’m going to try them. The marks are from the straps.Okie bipap wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 10:33 amAre the marks caused by the cushion or the straps?
