CPAP & Hospitals
Anyone of us that has been admitted for a hospital stay knows that strange equipment isn't optimal to say the least.
Last wed. i suffered a pain like i had never experienced , like an elephant sitting on my chest & sweating bullets. you guessed it a heart attack .
Quick thinking saved me in getting help and being rushed to cath lab for a stent procedure and then to another hospital to ccu. long story short i am now soo thankful & blessed to be to home . The only reassuring comfort during my ordeal was the second night i had my home cpap to use. It's hard to explain to someone that having my machine there was like family. Never ever take your cpap lightly !
Thanks for listening to my rant

Re: CPAP & Hospitals
When they first discovered I had AFIB, I spent the first night in the hospital without my machine and had to use their machine and mask. When I found out they wanted to keep me a second night, I had my wife bring my own machine to me to use. I slept much better that night than the first night.

Re: CPAP & Hospitals
I recently bought a full backup everything and have a travel bag fully prepared and ready to go with everything in it except the mask. I emphasized to my person how important it was that either a full mask is grabbed or the backup parts bag with full mask must be grabbed in addition to cpap bag.
I suppose I could put the mask in the CPAP travel bag, but I just didn’t want to open it yet and there isn’t room for it in the package.
I guess you could say I was keeping it fresh. Lol.

Thanks for listening
My backup/travel machine packed with an older mask gets grabbed by me or by my wife out the door to any doc appt that even remotely might turn into an ER visit, just in case I have to do an overnight.
Sure came in handy when I took a little ambulance ride to check out a very slight upper abdominal pain that quickly turned into an emergency gallbladder surgery to remove a gangrenous/septic mess. Glad I eventually had symptoms so it got found!
Having my own machine made all the difference for that week spent getting to know much of the staff at the local hospital the next county over.

When packing for my recent surgery, I anticipated not being able
to plug everything back in once home; so I made sure the bullfrog would know
what went where.
He done good.

It's important for bullfrogs to know what goes where.

I've had 4 hospitals stays this year. The wife has had enough experience now on packing/unpacking the machine and setting it up for me. She's a saint. Early on, I made a list, so she would know.

Yes, I always say this. Have a dedicated packing list and keep it in the CPAP bag. Besides not wanting to forget any component yourself, somebody else might need to pack it in an emergency.Sheriff Buford wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 4:40 amI've had 4 hospitals stays this year. Incidentally, it's always better to use your own machine if possible. If not, at least your own mask. Your machine is adjusted for you, and your mask is what you know is comfortable.

Re: CPAP & Hospitals
Yea... I always keep a 8-10 foot electrical extension cord in my bag. One of those thick electrical cords .... not the skinny ones. It never fails, the plugs by the hospital bed or hotel bed are being used, so you need to find an available plug... and it could be several feet from where your machine sits. I leave it in the bag... full time.D.H. wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 10:50 amYes, I always say this. Have a dedicated packing list and keep it in the CPAP bag. Items like extension cords, international adapters (if you travel internationally or plan to), and any other item that you use with your CPAP should be on that list. Also, anything that came with the CPAP such as the power cord, the hose, filters, etc. Not to mention the mask and mask cushions (which are not generally included with the machine by the manufacturer).

Have noticed a marked increase in apnea’s since coming home and taking the buffet of heart meds. Sleeping well and feeling good on wake-up just unexpected apnea’s. Guess I need to check the SD card
