help with my PB 420E hose problem

Post by wading thru the muck! » Tue Oct 26, 2004 9:51 pm

Finally got my cpap today but I suspect my hose is defective.

The pressure sensing inner hose is kinked where it exits the rubber fitting at the machine end of the hose. The exit hole is located 1/8" below the end of the coiled hose so it must make a 180 degree turn around the end of the coiled hose and then 90 degrees out the side of the rubber fitting. This causes the hose to fold flat and pinch closed.

Based on my conversation with Ted at cpap.com (where I purchased the equipment) that seems to be why my machine is blowing like a hurricane.

I'm trying to decide if I should cannabalize this hose and try to make it work.

By the time I pay to ship this one back and pay for the shipping for a new hose it seems I might as well keep this one and order a new one if I can't get it to work.

I'd appreciate any advice

So far it's been an anti-climactic first night on (oops!) not on CPAP

help with my PB 420E hose

It sounds like you got a defective hose - so much for quality control. The coiled hose should finish below the exit hole fro the little inner tube. If it was me, I'd try butchering the hose you've got; maybe make a new hole just above the end of the coiled tube and stick up the old hole with insulating tape or glue or something. You should be able to get the sensor tube out and straighten out the kinks - maybe swap ends so you'r using the good end for your new hole.

A really good idea would be to get a heated hose - they provide them with the sensor tube for the 420E. Costs a bit but you'll never ever know what "rainout" means!

Thanks Nev!

What you describe is exactly what I did. I appreciate your confirmation of my suspitions and method of repair.

Great sugggestion regarding the heated hose. Rested gal had provided a link for one that I had taken a quick peek at it. Is the one you are refering to from sleep zone AU? http://www.sleepzone.com.au/

I did have to drain the water out of my hose in the middle of the night to stop the gurgling

All in all I think it went pretty good for my first night on CPAP. I'm compiling a list of questions for the list - but no time to ask them now.

Thanks again!

Post script to all:

Ted at cpap.com has arranged for me to receive a new hose for my 420E free of charge if I send the defective one back upon receipt of the new hose. He called today and spent a great amount of time sharing his experiences with me. It was very much appreciated

Thanks Ted!
