Re: Tongue Stabilizing Device (TSD) for Mouth Puffing?
In conjunction with training your tongue to achieve a suction seal on the roof of your mouth, if you are able to side sleep, sleep on the edge of your pillow. Usually that causes it compress a bit and the front of your face will tilt slightly downward. This allows gravity to work for you in keeping ...

Re: Weight loss drug trial claiming to reduce Sleep Apnea. Hmmm?
Will be interesting to follow all this. While testing after losing weight showed my OSA just marginally improved, the benefits of losing weight have gone far beyond sleep apnea. Enjoying reading the experiences with the meds. Got a family member on one of them. Back in the mid 2000s when one of the ...

Speaking of cicadas, searched for the old thread with cicada limericks from maybe 2004 but couldn't find them. Anyhow, If this double brood cicada extravaganza is anything at all like 2004, our family will pay a few bills from selling t-shirts. Being a country girl in my youth, the cicadas don't fre...

Are you congested only at night or is it an all the time thing? If it's only at night you may get different suggestions.

Re: Can a CPAP machine truly revolutionize life?
Usually by the time one gets to a sleep study there have already been efforts to rule out other possible cause for the symptoms. There can be more than one thing contributing to how you feel. That was the case for me. But resolving the sleep apnea was a good starting point. Once one has adjusted to ...

Re: Periodic Limb Movement--learned neural pathways?
Hi Wantok. Sorry I hadn't stopped in for a few days. Just saw your messages. First, about retraining neural pathways. I feel like there's something to that just due to my journey and seeing how it was a lengthy process to help my PLMD and accompanying stuck thoughts in my brain. Using the TENS was a...

Re: CPAP making things worse
About your nasal congestion, are you "always congested" when using cpap or always congested day and night? If only when using cpap, consider that if a mask hits at the wrong spot on the sides of the nose, it can feel like the worst congestion ever.

Re: Strong correlation between movements, flow rate dislocations and appearance of apneas?
Been years since I was over on PubMed reading about this stuff and I realize how much I have forgotten since being out of the throes of the movements. Just read a couple studies and already my brain hurts. Remembering when I was hungry for every bit of related info I could glean. Admittedly feeling...

Re: Unable to Get Good Sleep after Two Surgeries and 6 Years on PAP
If you have untreated PLMD I would have to wonder how much it contributes to how you feel. Not sure how open your doctor is to doing things not in usual fashion, but the best way to know for sure is to do an overnight lab study while using your machine at the prescribed pressure the whole night. A t...

Re: INTRACTABLE HEAD PAIN WITH FULL MASK
I agree with the suggestion that a different mask may have the needed different pressure points to prevent pain. Knowing exactly where their pain is located could lead you to selecting a workable mask instead of guessing willy-nilly. I've had to give up on masks that the strap across the back of the...

Re: Nasal mask pressing and obstructing my nose
I too am very sensitive to a mask pressing on the sides of my nose. Even though I'm able to use a nasal mask, I have found that a slight difference in placement can change it from workable to intolerable. You might want to see if a slight shift helps you. The nasal mask I'm using came with my machine...

Re: My cpap machine smells like the last place it was used
Mine holds the odor of the last thing cooked, but it goes away soon after the first blast of air. Put on my mask one night last week and got unpleasantly surprised to find the lingering smell of our dog that had been sleeping a couple feet away while nursing odiferous digestive distress. Snatched th...
