Need a more detailed search

Post by baprater » Thu Mar 01, 2012 5:13 pm

Okay I typed in the "search" brick and it listed all the posts that had the word brick in them. Then I typed in "what is a brick" and it gave me recent posts with the word "brick" in it. I read a bunch of people complaining about a brick but nothing told me what one is and what to look for to avoid it. I am gathering that it is a cpap machine possibly a cheap one am I correct.

A brick would be a machine with no bells or whistles, no cflex or EPR, no data, just a straight cpap. And yes they are usually the cheapest.

Try it this way:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ac ... a+brick%22

That turns up this thread:
viewtopic/t66400/Insurance-tells-me-Apria-is-wrong.html

Board searches tend to be very primitive, and cpaptalk isn't one of the welcome exceptions.

A brick is a machine that gives you no info other than time used. If you have a choice get a fully auto, data capable machine, that way you can follow and tweak your own therapy. Go to a poster by the name of Janknits and click on her blog about what machine to buy...she has a wonderful file of good info there...before you get your machine and what to expect from your supplier. I have a brick....but once I found out it was next to useless I bought a fully capable auto with data.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

We throw the term "brick" around here, but our recent troll brought to my mind that we need to be more precise with our language. One of her arguments was that DME's don't lie when they tell you a machine has data--of course (most) all machines have "data" because people in the industry consider compliance data only sufficient. We patients are concerned with EFFICACY data, though. I don't need to know my hours of use from the machine--I already know that.

So I'm trying to remember to discuss EFFICACY data (using capital letters to emphasize the word) so that newbies will have a clue. When we say "brick" (meaning a machine with no efficacy data, or inadequate efficacy data) it isn't very clear.
