I felt like going to the gym today

Post by jackr » Sat Feb 10, 2007 5:09 pm

Notice I said "felt like" I didnt actually go!

This is the first time in more than 2 or 3 years I wanted to work out. I feel like I am on speed or something. I cant believe how much energy I have. I got 3 really good nights sleep since starting cpap.

I had some trouble last night with my nose getting sore from a comfortlite 2 mask and I took it off and was about to say the heck with it but instead decided to put on my nasal aire II and I am glad I did.

I am probably on some temporary high and I am sure I adjust but I have to tell you I feel strange. Great but strange nonetheless.

Anybody else go through this?

Yep!

I felt like doing laundry, but I didn't actually do it!

I felt like washing windows, but I didn't actually do them!

Joking aside, it's absolutely great to hear you've taken to "cpap" so well and are feeling better already, Jack! Very good news, indeed.

I felt about the same after starting CPAP. Then my wife asked me if I felt like completing some projects around the house...

Leaveye has hit on it Jack. Don't be tellin' folks you feel great or they'll want you to do stuff. Just wander off and have a good time.

It's really great that you are doing so well.

Brian

Yep!

I felt like being filthy rich a couple of times but I didn't actually do it either ...

Did it!!

Post by GoofyUT » Sat Feb 10, 2007 6:58 pm

Well, in counter-point to all the smart-alecks here, I felt like going to the gym and I DID IT!!! Since I started xPAP (right after a serious heart attack), I've been going to the gym 5 days a week, and max out the treadmill at 12% incline for 35 minutes. I've also just started circuit and free-weight training with a personal trainer. Not since college days have I done this!

So, xPAP has given me my life back, and then some. Congrats bro! maybe I'll see ya in the gym someday soon. Be sure to say hi!

Hey Jack,

That's great news! I'm with Chuck. I went to the gym 5 mornings last week but I'm nowhere near his level yet. But the point is I now have the energy to go, and not just be miserable because I wasn't doing the exercise I needed.

Good luck bro,

ok i have the energy now since starting cpap in november.....heck at the end of decemberi even re-joined my gym (membership went unsused and expired for over 2 years) but i still cant get my arse there. Is there something maybe that i can put in my humidifier water so that when i inhale at night while dreaming soundly, will make me actually LIKE to exercise?

I know i know i NEED to go....maybe tomorrow

Yup...there IS something that you can put in your humidifier tank each evening that will get you on your way. its called the HPE formula. Here's how it goes:

You put in:

1 part HOPE for your ability to take control of your life and your body and make them what YOU want them to be;

1 part PRIDE in yourself and the person (and body and health) that you CAN be; and,

1 part ENVY of those skinny, healthy and fit folks that you see every day and wish that you could be (secretly in your heart).

Mix them all together well, with a liberal dash of spice of life, and throw them in the tank.

VOILA!! Worked like a charm for me.

Here's what you leave out:

DESPAIR over what a slug you've let yourself become;

SELF-PITY over how hard it'll be to regain what you've once had or once hoped for;

EXCUSES about why today's NOT a good day to start, cause tomorrow AIN'T gonna be no better no matter how you try to convince yourself otherwise; and, finally

YOUR DEATH WISH which allows you to sit passively by and watch your deterioration unfold with eyes wide shut.

I'm not being sanctimonious; I sat passively with eyes wide shut for 30 some-odd years, and was awakened only after a near-fatal heart-attack. But, my momma didn't raise me to be a fool and I AIN'T GONNA MAKE THAT SAME MISTAKE EVER AGAIN!

I'm healthier, happier and fitter than I've been in 30 some-odd years, and I thank my diagnosis with SDB, my succcessful course of treatment with xPAP, and my blessed MI which awoke me from the walking dead, for what I've been able to accomplish and enjoy so much after all these years.

Wanna know how to get fit, healthy, happy and alive again???

One word:

S W E A T.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Chuck

ME! Although I actually DID go to the gym! The first great night of sleeping, I woke up at 5 a.m. and went to the gym. I also gave up caffeine that week too. I didn't notice any of the side effects (going from maybe 5 cans of diet dr pepper a day to zero) either. My insurance pays for $20 of my $30 gym membership if I get there 12 times a month (used to be only 8 times). I absolutely love how great I've felt ever since I started my treatment back in August.
