I'm a bit concerned and I would like to hear if there's a correlation between pressure and AHI.
When I got my CPAP machine my doctor in Illinois set my pressure to be 13 - 17. When I was in for my checkup 2 weeks ago my doctor here in Florida said that my pressure was close to my high point of 17. He also said that in his practice they set a wider range and ordered my DME to change the pressure to 8 - 20. Prior to the change my average AHI for any given timeframe was no more than 3.5 with 4.0 being about as high an AHI that I've ever had. Since the change my last two nights have been 4.6 and 6.9 so I'm concerned that this change, at least on the low end was a mistake and that I'm going to start exceeding the magic number of 5.0 on a regular basis. What are your thoughts?
Is there a correlaton between pressure and AHI?
Re: Is there a correlaton between pressure and AHI?
You don't need the doctor to change your pressure. If you were better at the higher pressure...change it back....it's your therapy.

Yes, typically, the higher the pressure the lower the AHI, after all, it's the pressure that keeps your airway from collapsing, lower the pressure below what's needed to keep the airway open, and .... your airway closes.moondoggy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 1:55 pmI'm a bit concerned and I would like to hear if there's a correlation between pressure and AHI.

The new doctors "practice" is stupid. Sorry, there's no other word for it... unless you want to dance around and call it "ill informed" "illogical" "ignorant".
Raise your min back to 13, (leave the max at 20) and see how things are.
Also, there's nothing magic about 5... that's a *doctors* number. A *GOOD* number is *TWO*.

Re: Is there a correlaton between pressure and AHI?
I use RESMED and I checked my AHI for the last 4 days and it had gone up from an average of 3.3 over 4 years to 5.0. Sent the results to my DME who agreed so I changed it back and he's going to notify the Doc. Left the high pressure at 20. Thought this was a mistake to begin with but since I had lost 53 lbs I think the doc was under the impression that I could drop my pressure down. Not sure why he thought that as he's considered to be the best sleep do in the Pensacola area. Anyway I'm back to 13 and I'm sure that things will return to normal tonight. Thanks again for posting.

I'd feel like dogpoo with an AHI of 3.3.moondoggy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:53 pmI use RESMED and I checked my AHI for the last 4 days and it had gone up from an average of 3.3 over 4 years to 5.0. I hope that "best in pensacola" is in error, otherwise, they're in trouble down there.
