Snoring

Post by chapa.r » Tue May 22, 2018 11:16 am

good morning. I'm just writing to see if anyone has experienced this. I'm going on 3 months with my resmed acpap. I love it. It has helped regain my concentration and memory. I was/am a BAD SNORER. For the first few weeks i didn't snore. After that my wife said i started again. She says it's not as bad. That's because the mask muffs most of the sound.

Have any of you returned to snoring after a brief time period of sucess?

When you have time please add your equipment to your profile like I have mine. Please use the text option.
wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

Use available software to see for sure what is going on besides someone reporting that they are hearing you snore.
https://sleep.tnet.com/equipment

As to why now more snoring than a while ago..don't know. Might be that you are on your back more which can make the OSA worsen and you might need just a little more pressure.
Might be more REM sleep is happening and it can also cause the OSA to worse and you might need a little more pressure.
Might be some excessive leaking is happening which can cause the pressure therapy results to be sub optimal.
Might be any number of things but you want to get it figured out because obviously much snoring going on means the airway is trying to collapse for some reason and not only is it annoying to the bed partner it might mean that your therapy is sub optimal.

FWIW my husband reports that sometimes he will hear me snore but only very faintly and only when I have ended up on my back for some reason.
He says it's not window rattling like it used to be before cpap. It's never really enough to show up on the software reports either.
Since I am primarily a side sleeper and he reports it so rarely I really don't give it much thought.

Ideally, you should not snore while using CPAP.

You might want to revisit your settings and you might want to clean or change your filter.

I'd like to know why he should use the text opion for his stats? I don't see how it makes much difference bot options are there for a reason I would assume?

Not all snoring is SA, that is why the experts say that even heavy snoring is not definitive for sleep apnea. Or at least that is my understanding. As to how the various machines determine a snore I don't know, I suspect it a variation or rapid fluctuation of the pressure or flow. So I am with Pugsy here, no need to worry about a faint and occasional snore showing up.

Because if I look at just the image it tells me nothing about the model. I can't tell one machine from another by the picture and have a hard time with the mask images.

Now yeah, I can click on the image and be directed to the web page.....or I can hover on the image and in teeny tiny letters on the left corner of my screen I can see the model name.
BUT....I can't read those teeny tiny letters due to my eyesight and clicking on the link takes up unnecessary time.

So I prefer text....easy to see and read and is less "work" and "time" for me. Anything that I can do to save myself some time...I am going to do it.
Will I still help someone who uses images...sure...if I have time.

The text option for your equipment makes it easier to tell what machine, ect. With the pictures you can't tell by sight the model and have to hover your mouse over the picture then read in small print at the bottom left to determine the model. Just makes it easier for someone that reads a lot of equipment.
I see Pugsy beat me to the answer but I will add mine also.

Sorry about the pics. I changed to Text. There was a comment about changing the filer? I just clean away the dust particles. Should that be changed?

I don't see how filter changing would help with snoring myself.
DH comes up with some off the wall stuff sometimes.
But wouldn't hurt to check it to see how it looks.
Snoring is a sign that the airway is trying to collapse. Now it may or may not do anything more than try just a little which is why I say to verify with software reports as to what else might be going on.

Due to where I live I just routinely change the filters once a month. Works for me and my needs. Others can go longer depending on where they live and their environment and what kind of filter they prefer. I prefer the fine filters and they get rather yucky looking after about a month. The more mesh filters will last longer before they get yucky looking but I personally don't really like them as much. I don't think they filter out as much stuff.

Always good advice, but it won't have anything at all to do with snoring.

The iconny, doesn't really show what you use, you have to click on it to take you away from the forum to see what you guess is of the equipment you use, many don't even know that. I wastes our time, so many of us go to the next post, to see if we can offer help. Jim

Filters catch more dirt than you can see on the outside of the filter.
You might get away with beating the dirt off once or twice--
and washing foam filters; but disposable filters should be REPLACED.
A clogged filter can make the motor work harder, and even reduce airflow for YOU.
