And yes, I fired a 30/30 at my ex-fiance's hunting camp in Minn. - 50 yrs ago. He's now a lawyer who gave the right answer when my mother opened the door first time he visited, by asking him (with a smile of course) "Democrat or Republican"?

Firing a gun isn't the same as owning them and using them responsibly. The guns in the news weren't owned or used responsibly.

Good thing you live in Canada, safe and sound our rifles can't shoot that far. However you are also unable to change our government, (I think) who know who can vote in U.S, elections nowdays. Jim

Australians were bragging how safe there gun laws made them compaired to the U.S.. The news promoted it, less that 2 months later they got their most deadly shooting since 2010, good work, News Media. Who's next to break the record.... Cause and Effect!

I can't. No one has done or said anything to qualify for locking an OT thread like this one.
Johnny has made that pretty clear in the past. He's really big on freedom of speech....even if it gets ugly sometimes.

Yeah...same heated discussion that we have had every other time in the past this sort of thing has happened.
Same people pretty much with same opinions and each side voices their beliefs very strongly.

No one is going to change anyone's mind but people still try and someone still has to try to get the last word in.
It's human nature I guess.

There are just over 50 million children in public schools. 36 students out of 50 million have been killed in shootings in 2018. Deaths per 100,000 = 0.072.

Deaths in automobile accidents = 12.0 per 100,000.

School is one of the safest places a child can be.

And Texas has a law that adults must keep their guns secured from children. This father did not. Tens of thousands do not. No law will work.

As long as they aren't driven to school, even safer if they aren't bussed to unneeded functions, instead of learning in school. Jim

Those charged with caring for and protecting the children were powerless because, in the US, public schools are gun-free zones, creating a bunch of unarmed targets for whoever wants target practice.

Permit (not require) trained, responsible staff to have weapons and you would see this fiasco come to an end. Banning guns is not the answer. Just look around the world at other cultures for proof.

BUT: Most teachers are Liberals, arming them scares ME also! Probably be safer arming the kids. I've been safely using a rifle since I was 10. Dad's first lesson all guns are loaded, never aim a gun at anything you aren't planning on killing. Never be around someone with a gun dumber than you. Carry muzzle pointed down or up, unload gun before moving on ground you may fall down on, or crossing fences, but remember rule #1, all guns are loaded.

Later I learned rule #2, don't let anyone shoot at you, be faster! Jim

I would be upset that the school didn't defend my children!

If you were in a public place and your life was saved by someone who had a gun would your view not change?

Unlike many here, I live this every day. The higher education I work for permits trained staff to conceal carry. I do not own a gun but I know many of my coworkers do carry at work many times.
I work for a high profile institution that attracts presidents and former presidents as speakers to the students. I know there is a target on us. The only question is when?
