New machine?

Post by Chalkie » Sun May 13, 2018 11:19 am

My appointment with the sleep nurse has opened up the possibility of a new machine - the Respironics A40 was mentioned. However, it looks to me like a machine for someone who needs a ventilator. Not an ASV, as far as I can see? is this machine really the one I need?

It is not definite yet as I have an appointment with the sleep doctor at the end of the month.

I discovered I have not been titrated as this is not NHS policy.

The nurse also mentioned sending me to a tertiary centre to have a thorough investigation done, although I have already done an overnight study where I was filmed, wired up, etc. But if it helps get my treatment working I am willing to go along with it.
Machine: Philips Respironics BiPAP C Series.
Mask: Respironics Comfort Gel Nasal Mask.

Pressure 12-18.

Do you need a new machine because the old one is technically not the correct machine, or is it just because it's time to replace?

If it's the latter and you are happy with your machine, I suggest asking for the updated version of the one you have.

Please disregard the previous ignorant comment.
You need to follow the direction of the NHS nurse's advice.
You obviously need something this machine offers. And it may NOT be invasive!
The NHS is so slow, you need to move on this ASAP, to have proper care now and in the future.

". . . The BiPAP A40 comes with well-known and clinically proven Philips Respironics technology such as Auto-Trak, AVAPS and a Dry Box humidifier design. The device is capable of non invasive and invasive pressure ventilation, up to 40 cmH2O, providing treatment for your chronic insufficiency respiratory patients"

40cmH2O?

While I always thought that CPAP up to 20cmH2O was very safe, I really have to wonder if there are risks in such a high range not generally known in the lower range.

D.H., Is there anything you don't wonder about, in the world.... I doubt it, that would require reading. Jim

An ASV has been mentioned before as a possible solution as the current machine does not appear to be working that well for me. I wondered whether the A40 really is the best option.

This is an ASV and looks very similar to my existing machine:

https://www.philips.co.uk/healthcare/pr ... v-advanced

The Dreamstation was the machine previously mentioned:

https://www.1800cpap.com/dreamstation-b ... onics.aspx

The A40:

http://www.compassmedical.com.my/produc ... 0-machine/

The nurse admitted at the outset she "Didn't know what to do with me". so I have little confidence that the people treating me know what they are doing.

What an I supposed to do about tweaking settings if they don't titrate and I am not supposed to touch them myself? As they don't want to tweak them any more.

Respironics also failed to request a download so I am going to chase them up right away before I see the doctor at the end of the month.

A download of what?
If you mean the software, then you are asking the wrong people.
Others here have the site where you need to request that,
--since the manufacturer (in their "infinite" wisdom)
choose not to put anything useful in the hands of PATIENTS.
With the software, YOU can load YOUR data onto YOUR computer,
and evaluate YOUR treatment, and do the job your providers refuse to even TRY.

Would it be too much to ask that you STOP inserting yourself into threads
where you obviously KNOW NOTHING WHATSOEVER?

I meant supply a download of my data to the clinic, that the nurse had requested.

It is a massive struggle to get Encore Pro working on my computer. If I was not so darned tired I reckon I would have got it working by now. Pugsy has kindly been downloading data for me in the meantime.

Any thoughts as to the machines I linked above, anyone? Is the A40 actually ASV?

https://www.philips.com.tr/healthcare/p ... ventilator

https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/ ... pap-autosv

There is a reason that there are 2 different model machines....because they aren't the same thing and don't do the same jobs.
Similar yes...but not the same.

Re: supplying data to clinic---
Remove the sd card from your machine, and take it to the clinic.
If NHS supplied a machine without an sd card,
somebody forgot something.
Time to get on somebody's case.
