Sections please

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Fri Aug 05, 2005 8:13 pm

Wouldn't it be nice to have a section on this forum just for software questions? Of course, message board sections don't apply only to software. If you're gone for more than a day or two, chances are you'll have trouble even finding a thread you've been following without using the search feature.

I understand some people who are not familiar with forums with sections feel if we're not all swimming in the same pond, it may inhibit new people from asking questions. I'm not sure how I would connect those dots, but it does seems to be getting harder to keep up with everything going on... or maybe it's just me.

Anyway, there's my 2¢ worth again... And I do love this forum.

I think that a lot could be accomplished with adding only 2 or 3 additional sections.

By adding one for "Forum Feedback" and one for "Non xPAP Discussions" (or off-topic), the primary section would become a little more focused.

Adding a section for the discussion of "xPAP Software Tools" might also be a good idea, since the people who are most likely interested in these types of software tools are also the ones most likely to be familiar enough with message forums to not get 'lost'. <grin>

The forum was originally divided into multiple topical forums and it was decided after input from many forum members to combine all the forums into one.

I've been through this on other boards, and I don't like the idea of separate forums.

First of all, it's too much to keep up with. I just don't have the time - or inclination - to be checking out more boards.

Secondly, I usually learn something from every thread I check out, even when the subject isn't something that concerns me. And some threads travel a crazy path, with other subjects entering the discussion. I don't want to miss anything!

But mostly, I like having one forum cuz we all get to know each other more easily. I love the comraderie that developes on a board like this. I don't think this board is so busy that sections are warranted.

Let me add that I think the admins do a GREAT job with this board. I've never seen a board that provides such immediate feedback from admin. You guys do a great job!

One soft, sweet song's just enough to clear my head...

IMHO, I prefer no sections. On other boards I find that when they're compartmentalized into sections, I miss posts that I otherwise might be interested in.

How about two sections?

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Sun Aug 07, 2005 8:19 am

How about two sections: One for software questions and one for CPAP rhymes?

Here's my first entries into the CPAP rhymes section:

There was a hose-head who's so stout
That he'd waddle when he walked about
His sleeping was shot
'cause his hose was too hot
An he'd suffer from too much rainout

= = = = =

There once was a man who would snore
like a freight train or lion he'd roar
'then he bought a CPAP
and closed up his yap
Now his sleeping's no longer a chore.

My vote goes with the NO sections crowd, for reasons already well stated by others. It's just easier to follow all the posts this way. The compartmentalized design is why I rarely read the ASA Apnea Support Forum board. There is just too much going on with that design.

Johnny,

Would you check and see if the people who think that it's best to have an all-in-one-section forum are not all using same IP address.
