Getting used to a new mask...Wisp

Post by Chalkie » Tue Apr 24, 2018 12:48 pm

Atm I am attemping to tfransition over to a new mask, the Wisp. Data so far suggests it is resucing leaks to around 50 L/min.

Results are mixed. The last two nights I have switched back over to the Comfort Gel nasal (my mask for many years) when wakung in the middle of the night as I was concerned fhe Wisp was not giving me as good a therapy as I need and I needed to be able to function the next day. The Confort Gel may noit be great for me (unless the sub-optimal therapy is all down to the machine/pressures) but at least I know where I am with it.

I am just wondering how long I should give the Wisp as I adjust. I would be interested to hear of others' experiences. Also dioes a chinstrap help? I Honestly don't know whether I need to use one or not. There can be a price to pay with excperimentation in that you can feel even worse the next day...I am putitng the last couple of iffy half nights with the Wisp down to it slippig out of position as I learn to get it fastened right.

I found it took quite a bit of fiddling with the straps to get a balanced fit on my Wisp. Getting an even balance of the tension among the 4 straps was the key to reducing leaks, and not binding it too tight to the face, of course. Perseverance paid off though, and I am very happy with it. I don't use a chinstrap.

I would definitely give yourself several full nights of use before you make a final decision. It's likely that your body needs some time to accustom itself to the new feel of the Wisp, and you may need more time to fine-tune the fit. Maybe try wearing it during the day/evening while reading or watching tv to add acclimation time?? Or postpone the transition until you can try it on a series of nights when you know you can function ok the next days on less than your usual optimum sleep.

Good luck,
Jean

Enshaded in forgetfulness divine

Why did you switch from the Comfort Gel nasal mask? I've been using that mask for many years. I see no reason to change. I won't comment on any other mask as I only used this one and the Mirage years ago. The Mirage was a good mask, but they send this one as a replacement and it was fine too.

Because I keep ragging his butt about his leaks being so very bad that his data is inaccurate.
We aren't talking a little large leak here...we are talking deep into large leak territory for prolonged periods of time.
I will let a little large leak slide...probably more than most people so when I say "you gotta do something about those leaks"...it's really bad.
