Solution for Mask Leaks & Skin Irritation?
Disclaimer: I have only used this product for 1 night but am impressed enough by it to post today.
I have been bothered by some skin irritation and what myAir is counting as “events” (actually when I pull the mask away from my face because of irritation). I found a lotion on Amazon called CPAP Chap. It costs less than $8 plus it ships free if you have Prime. It is used to prevent skin irritation and as I and other people have discovered, works to create a seal for the mask! From questions and reviews, some people put a bit inside their nose but I would be cautious at first till I was sure it didn’t cause any problems with my skin.
Last night my events per hour were half what they had been w/o using the lotion. I pulled the mask away from my face a few times because I only put the lotion where the irritation already was. Tonight I will cover the whole area where the mask sits.
I will update after a few days use.

It's encouraging for all of us to find even temporary relief from one thing or another if it gives us one or two nights of decent sleep and AHI results.
I would think that any cream safe for the skin and that doesn't absorb quickly would provide a good seal if applied around the rim of a mask of any description. You could use cold cream, Barriere, baby ointments, and others that don't contain petroleum distillates/other compounds that might adversely affect the material and integrity of the mask.

You are probably right but I still am more comfortable using something specifically made for CPAP use. This product has been proven to work and not damage the mask. The older I get the less likely I am to take chances! Lansinoh might work, but it is so stiff.
I don't even see how it is used for the intended purpose.

If you want to try mask liners, you can easily make your own. I made mine out of an old, well-used tee shirt, but any soft material can be used. I found a pattern at this site:
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf
This pattern will work for small and medium masks, and be enlarged to fit large masks. The hole in the center can be made larger, just make sure you leave enough material to go under the mask cushion.

So... you put this stuff on at night when going to bed? Not in the morning?

Yes, you put it on before you put your mask on at bedtime. Last night was the 2nd night I used it and again it worked great, no irritation and it helped to create a seal so the mask didn’t move. The only thing I did different from the first night was put the lotion everywhere the mask would sit instead of just where it was already getting irritated. For me it is working great and I hope it continues to do so.Sheriff Buford wrote: ↑Tue Apr 24, 2018 3:29 amSo... you put this stuff on at night when going to bed? Not in the morning?
