DreamStation Black Out Curtain

Post by Pad A Cheek » Fri Apr 20, 2018 10:21 am

Hello all,

I use the DreamStation machine by Philips now. I often get up before my dear husband and the light on the display when I turn off the machine is a bit annoying. I had been putting a sock over the display but it got knocked off. So I decided to make a new product. This is what I came up with

Does anyone else have this issue?

There is supposedly a fix to make the light much dimmer in a dark room. I haven't had the need to for it, but I understand it's available.

I read that updating the firmware fixes the issue.. Here's the updates : www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-DreamS ... r-OWN-RISK

If you do upgrade the firmware only go to the first one that fixes the back light as the latest one May affect the ability for sleepyhead to download the data until the new updated one gets released precompiled.

There is a current discussion I caught sight of on Discourse with Mark and the version 1.1.4 has some header issues only minor my recommendation would be to go to 1.1.1 max

I saw nothing about light dimming in either upsate, but I did find the following:

" While others have not reported problems, we include this information for full disclosure. If you have any doubts, it is NOT recommended to attempt a firmware upgrade on a machine you are not prepared to render permanently inoperable. "

I think I will pass on the 1.1.4 update:
"Feature summary:
1. Provider Mode Access PIN: For security, providers may setup an optional 4 digit PIN to enter Provider mode. The four-digit PIN is configurable by the provider."

My DME can't even get my settings right, no way I want them to have ability to lock me out!

OMG I hope the manufacturers aren't going to go to something like a pin number to get to the clinical setup menu....geez.
It's long been a fear that I have had that something like this would be implemented. It would totally screw up so many if they did that ...at least until we figure out how to bypass the PIN reset thing and turn it off.

the pin is easily cleared with a factory rest of the machine but then all setting information is lost.

I figured as much but then all past usage data is lost and if someone is still having big brother watch usage like for insurance compliance or something it could create a sticky mess.
Settings no big deal but that usage might be important to someone if still within some compliance usage proving time frame.
Yes, we might have it in our software but that doesn't mean the DME who is probably watching will have it.

Any machine with a data lockout will NOT be on my shopping list!
I would CHANGE BRANDS if necessary in order to see MY data.
And addressing the light issue: I am especially annoyed by Resmed's choice of a
screen light that is nearly invisible unless I direct a BRIGHT lamp directly on the sensor.
At least the display on my old S9 could be read in the dark.

Totally agree with all of that and you're right about RESMED, I am always using my cell phone to trigger the light brighter on the unit .. The S9 did have better lighting... Hoping for a firmware update for the machine in the future ...
