Always worried about non-standard or non-existent plug

Post by D.H. » Fri Apr 20, 2018 7:59 am

I've traveled quite a bit and, thus far, this has not happened. The very worst that has ever happened iis that the socket was very far from the bed. That only happened once, but it happened the very first time I traveled with CPAP.

I know this is unlikely, but has anybody ever encountered a hotel room with all the lamps hardwired into the wall and no sockets or sockets other than the type listed (and not able to accommodate a universal adapter)?

The Guest House on N. Lincoln Ave. is like that. But, the waterbeds are great.

While I haven't worried about that I have wondered "what if?" Then remembered a few years back needing a similar adapter for different reasons:

I used to travel with that type of adapter; just in case. However, it does not work in all countries, as the lamp socket threads are different.

I was unaware there's any single adapter that works with or fits ALL international adapters. But I would think this adapter will adapt to an international adapter kit. Especially given this particular adapter is available in 2/3 prong terminated or pass-thru (as shown). I did find this link to a site that explains the uses for all ES (Edison Size) bulb socket threading used thru-out the world: May not solve this issue but an interesting read and short enough to get through easily enough.

They do sell "universal" adapters that are claimed to work with all "standard" socket types except the older South African ones and some very old ones in Israel. South Africa changed the standard very recently. The old plugs won't fit the new sockets in SA. Israel changed the standard in 1989, but the new Israeli sockets accommodate the older plugs (presumably, to prevent anybody from wanting to install the older type).

Why?
The smart choice would be to avoid third world countries with outdated infastructure.
Safer, too.

Been around the World and back, only country I ever ran out of power was Viet Nam, the power wasn't low, there was none. Worse thing among my jobs was servicing 72 generators, and 39 assorted trucks. We had one gas lantern per tent. All power went to our field hospital. Jim

Never did get a chance to write the American? Kids living in Canada how they liked their Daddies Electric Lights.

Was this recently? Funny you should mention Vietnam, as I am planning to travel there. Of course, I'm staying in hotels in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), so I expect that the power will work. I was advised that all hotels will take wither the UK, US, or European plugs; I'm ready for all of those.

World Tour 1966, I got the round trip ticket, some didn't. As Long as you have to be one, Be A Big Red One! Check out the Di An U.S.O., the cheeseburgers were pretty good, compared to the freeze dried crap the government fed us.

My brother used one in a jail in South Dakota--to use his radio.
(Traffic infraction--fine was more than he had)
