RESMED P10 Mask
I am a fairly new CPAP user, almost three months now. I have used the RESMED F20 and N20 masks. Both work OK but I have been interested in the P10 as it has little head gear. Also many of the frequent responders/experts here use it. I had read that it was very quiet. So I obtained one last week. Well to me it is anything but quiet as you can really hear your in and out inhalations. I have found the medium size works best and have even tried it while wearing a Breath Rite nose strip. I cannot fall asleep with it on. Am I missing something about the P10 mask? My CPAP machine is the latest model Dream Station. Thanks..
Re: RESMED P10 Mask
What is the model number for your new DreamStation machine?
There's like a half a dozen or more different DreamStations.
Model number is on a sticker on the bottom of the blower...starts with DSX and then some numbers
I don't know why you are hearing your breathing so much with the P10 unless it is conducted noise.
Try it again and put your fingers in your ears....is the noise level the same, louder or reduced?
I have been using it for quite some time now (years) and it's essentially silent for me.

Re: RESMED P10 Mask
Sounds like to me you went from a full face mask to nasal pillows. On a full face mask, the air is shoved into the mask, and you breath at will. On a pillow mask, the air is constantly forced thru your nose. This will take some getting used to.

This is exactly why I disliked the P10...I am sticking with my FF mask.Sheriff Buford wrote: ↑Sat Apr 14, 2018 6:44 amSounds like to me you went from a full face mask to nasal pillows. Re: RESMED P10 Mask
I am using the DreamStation 500H11C. I tried putting in earplugs while on the P10 and the sound did not go down. It is a little hard to believe that it can be quiet for others. Do any others use the P10 with the DreamStation and not the RESMED CPAP machines?
Re: RESMED P10 Mask
I have used the P10 with both brands of machines...ResMed and Respironics and in fact currently own both brands...same result in terms of the mask itself being silent.
I think what you are hearing is more of the Darth Vadar breathing sounds that are fairly common with any machine and really any mask for some people.
The silence of the P10 itself...is talking about vent noise silence because of the way the vent holes are designed. It's not what eliminates the Darth Vadar type of noise. Two different kinds of noise.
I sometimes hear the Darth Vadar noise...it's just something that I sometimes hear and sometimes don't. Doesn't matter which machine or which mask...it's more of a conductive noise...conducted through the hose, the mattress, the whatever.
If you hear something just as loud with the ears plugged up...the noise is coming from within your head...conducted noise.
It's hard to eliminate conducted noise and as to why you have it more with the P10 than the other masks...I don't know why.
Sometimes adding a hose cozy helps with the conducted noise...sometimes routing the hose up over the head will help by taking the mattress out of things.
Sometimes we just learn to tell the brain to turn off the hearing of the conducted noise...I think that is what I have done because sometimes I hear and sometimes I don't and I haven't changed my routine or hose placement at all. I learned to accept it and not fight it.
