Oxygen levels
Oxygen levels
I have a question and looking for help. I have had a cpap machine for about 7 months now. I decided to get a watch that connects to my finger while I sleep and reads my oxygen and the amount of times it drops over night and for how long.
On average my oxygen drops between 93 to 85 over 30 times a night with my machine being on. Auto or fixed. But, I'm only staying that low for a few seconds ever time before it goes back up. So on average I'm dropping to that level for a total of about 40 seconds in 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
My question is should I worry about how many times it's dropping or does that even matter??

Re: Oxygen levels
It could just be a bad connection if the change is that quick. What is happening to your heart rate at those times ?

Re: Oxygen levels
My guess is that your cpap isn't set up for your needs. get sleepyhead, post some charts, if you've got a machine that will work with it.Chad_ch wrote: ↑Sat Apr 07, 2018 3:31 pmI have a question and looking for help. I will attempt to attach a shot of what a night looks like on the oxygen

Re: Oxygen levels
To me, it doesn't look like you need to worry about it for the short term. It does look like you should be able to optimize your therapy though. There is lots of room for improvement.

Using weight loss, general exercise, and tongue/throat exercises I managed to get my AHI down to approx 5.
Not using a machine currently.

Looking at Sleepyhead would be more revealing.

Re: Oxygen levels
Have you seen what your 02 looks like when the cpap is not in use? My cpap actually was causing which I think was central apneas and made my 02 level worse. I am curious what most peoples 02 levals are throughout the night when they are using the cpap machine. How many AHI did you machine say you had?
Here are some of my charts. The first one was with me not using cpap machine. the second chart was with me using a cpap for the rest of the night. Notice how the 02 dropped so much with the machine.

Re: Oxygen levels
Thanks for the feedback. I will try to upload some from sleepy head. How do I get a report to this page?

You can also upload your SPO2 sata to Sleepyhead from a Contec and other devices.

Re: Oxygen levels
I have attached two of them. I was on an auto CPAP for the first 7 months but this last week I asked to have it at a fixed rate to see how it would do. So I have put both on here.
Thanks

Re: Oxygen levels
Your oxygen levels will fluctuate when sleeping and even when in REM sleep. Your oxygen dropping below 90% for then then 2 minutes over entire night is nothing I would get worried about.Chad_ch wrote: ↑Sat Apr 07, 2018 3:31 pmI have a question and looking for help. Does this happen every night ? How often do you check and what is it normally on average?

Re: Oxygen levels
My oxygen drops a lot belong 90 but never for long. Here is how many "Drops" below 90 I had this week. Monday 43, Tues 41, Wed 35, Wed 31, Thur 62, Friday 38.
My total time is always less then 1.5 minutes total for the night. I guess I know its not a long time, I just assumed with a CPAP those drops would be stopping but maybe I'm wrong in my thinking. My average oxygen level for the night is always around 97-95 %

Re: Oxygen levels
How long have you been on fixed pressure for and how many times on fixed have you taken oxygen readings?
Typically an increase in minimum pressure is what helps with oxygenation.
Honestly I don't think yours are that bad.
That said if your concerned about it talk with your doctor.
My pulmonologist said she wasn't concerned with mine and thought it was probably during REM sleep. I also just found out I have restrictive lung disease. My typical AHI is less then one. Here are the two I showed my Dr, she said it might not be bad idea for me to raise my minimum pressure by 1 or 2.

Re: Oxygen levels
I Have a finger oximeter and I have set it to alarm (beep beep beep) at 89%, because sometimes I was taking my mask off in my sleep. My O2 would otherwise go down to 80% and stay there without my CPAP.

Re: Oxygen levels
Your signature says you have an ASV. It isn't set up right, is my guess. Are you under the care of a doctor?cpap626 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 07, 2018 5:14 pmHave you seen what your 02 looks like when the cpap is not in use?
