The dreamwear gel pillow is one of the more comfortable masks I’ve tried. It seemed to be mostly fine for a number of months, but lately the sounds of my breathing, moving through the mask, repeatedly wake me up throughout the night. It appears to be the most noticible, and the worst, a couple of hours before I’m scheduled to wake up in the morning.
I can’t tell...sometimes it seems that I can adjust the fitting in my nostrils and the noise is reduced, but most of the time this doesn’t help at all. It’s become so distracting that after multiple times waking up and falling back asleep, I eventually just acquiesce and pull the mask off.
Is there anything I can do, short of sleeping with earplugs?
Additionally, is there any way to monitor how often I’m woken up by external factors like noise? I totally don’t understand how to read sleepyhead data. I recently took a neurocognitive exam and my IQ has basically dropped about 10pts due to 16+ years of unrestorative sleep. So, what I’m saying is, it’s often quite difficult to understand things I read. My reading comprehension has been greatly affected.

It may be your CPAP machine. I was having the same issue. I got a new one when I changed insurance company and my old mask was quieter. The medical supply company I got it from tested it and said it worked but did not have my mask. This was after 10 months. I liked the features on it better than the cheaper one the new insurance gave me.Maybe you can get them to exchange it. I wanted to try the gel ones as the regular nasal pillows stretch out after 2 weeks. I tried to get the part numbers to order new headgear and gell but they gave me the ones I have. I am not happy with Respirontics. They sent me an ad when I as a reply when I complained.

I think this is an issue specifically related to the Dreamwear as I've used a number of other style masks with this machine.

Is the noise coming from the nose piece? If so try the non gel type. I've tried both and I prefer the non gel. Is the noise coming from the tubing? I've had this problem when I start to snore. For me it's a jerky/popping type of sound. The sound wakes me up and I just lay on my side. I believe this happens because the tubing is laying on porous bones near the ear/upper cheek.
Anther note. I also switched to the larger overhead tubing. For me it provides a much better fit by not putting so much pressure on the bottom of my nose. It may have also helped with the noise, but I'm not willing to say this for sure yet.

Have you tried other masks? While I haven't tried the Dreamwear gel pillows yet....the Dreamwear cushion was my loudest nasal mask. Eson2 was the quietest so far. Most happy with the Wisp....except the mark on my nose bridge.

I also own a wisp. I find it very comfortable, but very loud for me. I sleep on my side and stomach and the air hitting the sheets is very loud.
