3 weeks in - issues

Post by gabagoo » Mon Apr 02, 2018 11:37 am

So it has now been about 3 weeks since I came home with my loaner CPAP machine. I selected the mask that is just a nose fitting with very soft rubber and the two nostril inserts... the air comes in from the top of your head and goes down 2 sides and into the nose fitting. I thought this would be the most uninvasive mask. I think I may be wrong about that.
Just about every night, I wake up 3 or 4 times...I think it has something to do with the nasal portion on one side possibly moving and when I exhale I actually feel it completely closing and for a split second no air passes. At first I thought it was coming from my throat, but after keeping an eye on it in an awake state I have determined it to be the nose fitting. If I play around with it I can get it to stop, but I find it very annoying and at 1:30 in the morning I really don't want to become too conscience fiddling with it as I won't fall back asleep for a while, so after 3 or 4 interuptions I have just been taking the mask off for the remainder of the night.

I am going in tomorrow to try a different mask. I think I will try the type that fits over your nose with the feeder hose directly in front of your nose and see how that works.

I have the humidity set at the highest (5) and I find that I also wake up with my mouth so dry that I have to really work at getting some saliva to produce so I can move my tongue.
How do you stop the dry mouth?

ps wife happy...the snoring is gone :)

By three weeks you ought to have your permanent CPAP machine.

By all means, try another style of mask. Every individual is different, and which type of mask is best for you and which particular mask is best for your face is a personal thing.

You need a full face mask (one that covers your mouth so you don't lose therapy air that way (and dry out).

That's a possibility, but I would try a regular nasal mask first.

I agree with Julie...Sounds like mouth breathing..try a full face mask. That's what they are for.

I'm not sure i could take a full face mask as I seem to get very hot even with just the nasal mask and a couple of rubber tubes down the side of my face. I should correct that and say I feel very hot and uncomfortable with things touching my face.

You could try taping your lips closed for one night just to see if it fixes the dry mouth issues.
Mouth breathing is one of the main culprits for dry mouth but there are other culprits and using a full face mask doesn't guarantee no dry mouth anyway.

Having the humidity set at 5 may be partally why you feel warm..That is heated moisture.

Ah...Canada...that explains the trial. What is it ...a month long trial and then you buy your forever machine?

you could try xylimelts. it's a lozenge that you use overnight to promote saliva. should be available at your local drug store.

as to the snoring, you know what they say; happy wife, happy life!
:D
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Sounds like you have a Dreamwear mask. The nasal pillows did not work for me due to discomfort. You could try the nasal cushion that sits under the nose.

Why? He could try the nasal cushion and a chin strap.

The OP already said " I'm not sure i could take a full face mask ." So, I would try to make the current setup work.
