Mask while awake, sleep quality depends on sleeping room

Post by papzombie » Sat Mar 31, 2018 4:56 pm

Hi all,

2 years since using the CPAP, always 0.5 AHI (was 40 AHI before CPAP), always headache upon waking up. Always problems about memory, thinking speed, irritation / anger, decision making, concentration. BUT I HAVE TO SAY, THE PROBLEM ABOUT THINKING SPEED AND MEMORY IS 50% reduced.

Still there are 2 issues now:

1) Mask while awake:
I find my brain and concentration becomes normal during the day if I put the mask on (with air pumping in).

No one believes me so far, no fucking doctor ever believe it.

Nasal congestion ? Yesterday upon hearing about my using the mask while working a doctor put one tube into it to see, and said nothing.

Lazy brain after getting used to CPAP ? Not really, I find CPAP help me while being awake right after the 1st time using CPAP.

It is true that when I am tired then if I practice deep breathing then I will feel 200% brain productivity.

2) Choosing sleeping room.
There are some rooms in my house that I find it terrible to sleep (wake up many times per night, feel more terrible afterwards.

3) Removing air filter of the CPAP
I am on my 3rd night sleeping in my living room, with air filter removed. Just try something new.

4) Is that the lung problem ?

I do have Asthma, but not sure if related. I have never taken Asthma medicine seriously.

You would need a verrrry long extension cord to use your CPAP all day unless you sit in one place for 24 hours. (Strong arms too).

You don't need a CPAP machine on when you're thinking or using a computer. You only need it when you're sleeping.

It's the Placebo Effect:

Don't waste your machine runtime hours when you aren't going to be in bed sleeping.

If you think the cpap works better for you during the day, maybe you need supplemental o2. Do you have an 02 sensor you can wear all the time? That would give you an idea if you really are not getting the 02 you need or if its is all in your head.

Spirometry O2 is always > 97 (measuring in 15 min). Only in my head ?

presumably that's in your finger, which appears to work fine.

Unlike your head.

If your 02 level is good, I don't think the mask is going to help you. You may want to check out the asthma part of it. I have a severally deviated septum, when I have the mask on, it is incredible, instead of feeling like I am breathing through straws I can take full breaths of air! If I could feel like I do when I am wearing the mask during the day, I would feel soo much better, but my body is getting enough o2 and my lungs just have to work a little harder when breathing.

Sorry I am late in this.

So you are the 2nd person (or 3rd) in this world to feel like me the need to wear the mask during the day ?

Yes I have Asthma and am allergic to flower pollen (I need Ventolin Discus once per year in Spring)

I did this once when I had a very bad cold. It seemed to stop my hacking cough better than any cough medicine (and less worry about side effects and interactions). That was before I needed reading glasses, so I was able to work on the computer.
Haven't really tried this since then, though.

Slppe Apnea happens at night by definition. However, nobody ever proved to my knowledge that similar disturbances during wakefulness are not possible.
