What am I doing right?
What am I doing right?
I really had minimal to no problems adjusting to CPAP. I will soon hit the nineteenth anniversary of usage.
When I heard of all these problems, I couldn't help but ask "what are they doing wrong?" However, it occurred to me that maybe I should ask what I did right?
The counterfeit money detectives don't spend their time studying counterfeit money. Rather, they spend their time studying genuine currency! Maybe studying what's being done right is the key to compliance.

Re: What am I doing right?
Wow, 19 years with no problems? Every time I think I have it right because I have a good night or two, I get knocked down a peg by having a less than optimal night. I've learned to be happy with good results, typically under 2 AHI. The important thing is that I feel rested and my energy level is back where it used to be years ago.D.H. wrote: ↑Tue Mar 27, 2018 11:58 amI really had minimal to no problems adjusting to CPAP. Sometimes, it is nothing more than DUMB LUCK.
Just be grateful, and decent enough not to rub it in anybody's face.
K?
Oh, BTW, I strongly believe that taunting others with one's own good fortune
is the most certain way to jinx it for yourself. Good luck with that.

19 years goes back to 1999 and the crap machines and few doctors that knew anything about it.. If it sounds too good to be true.....never mind, i'll let it go.

My guess was based on when he joined the forum which was about 18 months ago; nothing more than that. Anniversary can mean any time scale. Whether it is 19 months or years - congrats.

Re: What am I doing right?
I dont think it is about you doing anything right or anyone else doing anything wrong. I dont recall having a major struggle to adjust. It was 12 years ago.....so maybe I just dont remember. lol. But I was also 25 years old, had no sinus issues, no septum issues, and no bad attitude about the whole thing. I was happy and excited to start CPAP. I felt like someone had handed me to the keys to a new life......I felt like I finally had some answers and a way to solve a problem.
But really......I was just LUCKY. No one is doing anything wrong, you are not somehow doing something right. This post seems pretty condescending and I dont think that comparing people who struggle to conterfeit money is at all productive or helpful and I fail to see how anyone who struggles would not be offended by that nonsense.

Re: What am I doing right?
Nope, 1999 (July)! That was eighteen years ago.
My first CPAP was an F&P HC-201. The 200 Series were the only CPAPs on the market at that time with integrated humidification. In fact, the humidifier and the machine were one inseparable piece, and the hose could only be connected to the tank, not directly to where the air comes out. It has a three-prong (grounded) plug and no external power brick. It was dual-voltage when few things were. I even got into a bit of a misunderstanding in Ireland where I was told I could not use the machine without a voltage converter. I was able to show them that it said 100-240 volts 50-60 hz, right on the machine.
I've had the following CPAPs:
1999) F&P HC-201.
2005) F&P HC-231.
2009) Aeio-Med Everest 3 (this manufacturer went out of business in 2011).
2016) Respironics DreamStation Auto.
Also, there were no remote control CPAPs available for the sleep lab to use. There was a hole in the wall for a (very long) hose; the CPAP was kept outside the room.
