Dust mite allergy sufferers?

Post by meister » Sun Feb 27, 2005 7:27 pm

I figured out a neat trick! I am allergic to dust mites so my sinuses
are always clogged up each night. So when the allergist mentioned that
bright sunshine or extreme cold can reduce mite populations, I thought
"we practically never see the Sun in Winter in Michigan, but we do get
extreme cold". So each morning I started hanging my blankets outside
when I left for work. Sure enough after a couple of days of doing this,
my sinuses started staying open all night. The blankets freeze solid during the day and it kills the mites. The allergist said get a plastic bag and put them
into a freezer if you don't live in Michigan. So for those who have clogged up noses, think about why they are closing up, and try something like Flonase or Nasonex, along with Allegra-D or Zyrtec, or maybe try some Echinacea. If
those things don't work, try freezing the dust mites!!

A real easy way if you don't have freezing temperatures is to keep the humidity below 50%. The critters can't live below 50% humidity...
