mask question

Post by dave in delaware » Sun Feb 27, 2005 12:54 pm

While trying to sleep recently ive noticed that both of my masks leak not only around the mouth but also at the plastic connection fittings.masks are respironics comfort classic and select . pressure of 12 cm. seems like quite a lot air escaping, is this normal, and wouldn,t it affect treatment.

To put it politely , Respironics masks in general "SUCK". Get yourself a Resmed ultra mirage or Activa.

Dave,
You might be confusing leakage with the deliberate mask exhaust when you talk about leakage at the plastic fittings. All masks have built-in exhaust ports that prevent a build-up of CO2 that would occur if you were to continuously rebreathe the air in the tube. On the Comfort Select the exhaust is through a very narrow slit around the plastic pipe, close to the 90 deg. bend.

Dave, I have the same mask you do. (maybe that's my problem) Still, I had asked the doctor about that escaping air, and he said the same thing that Derek said. The leakage I have to worry about is the leakage that occurs sometimes at my high prescribed pressure of 18. The exhaust, I actually like feeling that little breeze sometimes. I know. Weird.
