Deviated Septum & Bone Spur

Post by DCTom » Sat Dec 16, 2006 3:45 pm

I've had a terrible time getting CPAP to work for me, so I went to an ENT; they did a CT Scan of my sinuses. The doctor says I have a deviated septum and a bone spur in my nasal cavity, which is causing a blockage. She recommends surgery to fix/eliminate it. Has anyone had any experience with this? Advantages, disadvantages? Did it help or hurt?

If I had known I would have lived this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

Have the surgery you will never regret it, it is no big deal.

I am interested in this also. Through all my doctor visits over the last several months I am learned that I have a deviated septum also. I cant really help you with your question. But I am wondering also.

I've had it. It's no biggy. I would classify it as mildly uncomfortable for a few days and I had a severrely deviated nasal septum. It certainly helped me. Anyway, that's my experience. Other may vary.

I had it done May/06. It isn't no big deal. Worse problem was a head-ache that I just couldn't shake.

In my case, my nose was actually crooked towards one side. In fact, I had people for years ask me if I had broken my nose.

I had not.

Now my nose is perfectly straight!!! My insurance sprung for septo-rhinoplasty. (Septum surgery + nose job.)

Get 'er done. I had it done years ago (it was so bad the doctor had go back in several months later and finish the job). I can breath much, much better . I could never have used xPAP without having my septum straightened.

deffinatly feel better, breathe better, before had a hard time breathing thru my nose, still get allergy congestion, but that is only seasonal. I had mine done a few days before 4TH of July, Had a gang of 30 over for a barbecue, nose was somewhat tender to the touch, but didn't affect our party or me.

Had it done in 99, no real problems. If you get it done make sure you have water by your bedside when you sleep because when the nose is packed your mouth drys out very quickly. That was the worst part for me.
