Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
Initially I was renting a machine until my insurance got sorted out. Went in a week ago and got the new one. Exact same model with same settings, just different serial number and 0 hours instead of 800 something. The new machine makes a noise that the old one does not. It's sort of a whirring noise - the frequency increases when I inhale, and decreases when I exhale. It is barely audible standing next to the machine, but when I put my ear plugs in it becomes much more noticeable. Tried sleeping without them a few times but then other things keep me up. No noticeable effect on my AHI or pressures from new machine to old but my overall sleep quality has nosedived. I thought maybe it was just because it was new and would go away with time but that does not seem to be happening.
Gonna call the DME today but it might take a week or so to get in to see him, so just wondering if any of you fabulous people have any advice on what it might be.

Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
If the noise is worse with ear plugs that usually points to conducted noise of some sort...conducted through the mattress, the hose or bed pillow or even the bones in our head.
Do you have something you could try wrapping the hose in to reduce conducted noise? Old socks with toes cut out so they will slide over the hose... You can buy a ready made hose cozy but that would take some time to get to you...so I would use something now to see if it even helps. Even wrapping some fleece fabric around the hose and securing with scotch tape.
Also get the hose up off the mattress...maybe rig up some sort of DIY hose hanger system.
Doesn't have to be fancy. Just eliminate the hose touching anything on your bed.
See this thread for ideas.

At least try these ideas to see if it helps or not so you can tell the DME that you tried so and so and it helped or didn't help.

It is unfortunate that photobucket has broken the links to servers here and elsewhere for photos posted by its members over the years. It greatly reduces the efficacy of the linked threads in some cases.
Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
Sorry about that. Photobucket was a great thing back in the day most of those images were posted.mesenteria wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 1:20 pmIt is unfortunate that photobucket has broken the links to servers here and elsewhere for photos posted by its members over the years. Photobucket used to let us embed the image. Now they want us to pay $400 a year to do that.
That's why a lot of us have switched over to Imgur.com for image hosting.
Unfortunately a lot of those posts in the link I provide all were on Photobucket but there's enough information available to give a person an idea of a DIY project.
This one is easily made with a couple of Command Strips and some stretchy something or other.

Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
Thanks, I'll see what I can come up with. I sent hubby the link to that hose buddy on amazon and asked if he could make something like that. He said sure, no problem. And has done nothing.
DME actually managed to squeeze me in at lunch today, which was very nice of him. Of course *sigh* the office was too loud and neither of us could hear the noise. He suggested trying to turn off my EPR (my pressures aren't that high) and see what effect that has on the noise. He also said if it's still bugging me a couple of days to come back and he'll just swap me a new machine which hopefully won't do it!

Do you have the new Respironics Dream Station? if so disconnect the unit from the humidifier and see if you get the same results. I have found that it's related to the seal on the humidifier. If that's the case ask your DME provider to do a warranty exchange. The unit has a two year warranty for whatever reason.

Have you tried using a fan or a white noise generator instead of ear plugs? I can't tolerate earplugs due to tinnitus, but a white noise program works wonders.

Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
Update: turning off EPR made no difference. Took a 15 second video of the noise and am gonna email it to DME, since the office was too noisy to hear it. Never got around to wrapping or hanging hose yesterday.

Maybe it's time to do a product exchange: I hear the new hubby models are much more functional and understanding.blacknebula wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 5:27 pmYes, I have one. Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
DME swapped the machine yesterday. Had a lovely, peaceful sleep with no wheezing noise.
Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
Good job. These machines should be essentially silent and when they aren't we shouldn't have to drown out the machine noise with white noise. There are lemons even in the brand new machines..and the best thing is to get them swapped out.blacknebula wrote: ↑Thu Mar 08, 2018 7:50 amDME swapped the machine yesterday. If the machine is making noise and conducted noise happens....it's just going to conduct that machine noise to our ears.
It's not acceptable to have to deal with real machine motor noise.
Sounds like you got a lemon with that new machine. It happens. Lemons can happen anywhere.
Glad you got it sorted out.

Re: Yet Another Machine Noise Topic
FYI - I was having that problem - got it replaced and it went away but has come back a little at times. I find it helps if sit the machine on top of a towel.
