New Airsense 10 Elite Keeping Me Awake
I just got a new Airsense 10 Elite to replace a 10 year old machine. I was all excited about a new, quieter machine, until it was simply keeping me awake. I have had it on for 2 hours, and slept maybe 15 minutes, with the likelihood of getting back to sleep seeming not promising.
There seems to be some base adjustment that tries to maintain the set pressure. But that shifting in pressure is causing my mask to move up and down on my face. It can push outward, sometimes causing the seal around my face to briefly break. Other times it seems like I have a momentary inability to breathe.
From what I could see from the clinical menu, the EPR is turned off. I tested with setting the epr to 1 - it made it way worse.
My old cpap machine just pumped out a single pressure. It didn't try to adjust pressure on the fly. It rarely interrupted my sleep.
It's ironic that a machine designed to help me sleep is doing the exact opposite!
Questions :
1} For those of you with the same experience, what did you do?
2) Are there machines that allow you to turn any auto-adjusting of pressure off entirely?
3) Is there a way of neutering this feature in the Airsense 10 elite?
Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy,
Some of the most knowledgeable folks here are probably sleeping right now. But I can at least point out a few things that might help them answer your question when they return. Can you tell us what pressure your machine is set for? Is your mask nasal or full-face? I use a full face mask with a memory foam cushion, and you'd need more pressure than I've ever experienced to make it move up and down my face.
Provided with the right details, I'm confident the folks here will get you the answer you need, but maybe not until morning.

The Elite, with EPR off, doesn't vary the pressure, so you shouldn't have any mask inflation/deflation when you breath...
The only thing that I can think of that might cause that effect would be having the mask type, or hose type settings wrong. If you have a heated hose, it should set automatically, otherwise that setting has to be done manually, along with mask type.

Re: New Airsense 10 Elite Keeping Me Awake
If the wrong diameter hose is selected for a non heated hose the machine will do some weird blowing things.
So I would make sure the correct hose diameter is selected.
If you have a heated hose the machine should sense the heated hose and make the selection for you.
And like what was mentioned.
If you have an Elite model machine it doesn't have any auto adjusting capabilities at all and with EPR off the pressure shouldn't do what you are describing.

If you really have an Elite model...there is no adjusting pressures. Elite is a fixed pressure machine. Aside from the ramp setting the machine maintains the pressure it is set at for the entire period it is running. Does it really say Elite in the lower RH front corner?randybassett wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2018 1:33 amI just got a new Airsense 10 Elite to replace a 10 year old machine. Re: New Airsense 10 Elite Keeping Me Awake
First, I must say I am extremely impressed with the speed and quality of the feedback of the answers on this forum. Hats off to you!
Everything seems to be set to normal CPAP mode, but I will test out some of the settings noted in the replies.
I tried the machine again after I posted (in the wee hours of the night!) When I am breathing through my nose, there is a slight fluctuation in pressure, noticeable, but slight. If I breathe through my mouth (which I do quite frequently), that's when the machine/mask goes into sleep destruction mode. It's impossible to sleep with that going on. I just reverted back to my old machine for the night.
Thanks for your input. I'll keep trying/testing/playing.

Re: New Airsense 10 Elite Keeping Me Awake
I think I figured it out with the feedback from the group.
Someone mentioned that hose diameter could be an issue. The woman at the CPAP supply said I should be able to use my current hose so I did that. It turns out that hose is wider (higher diameter) than the hose that came with the machine. I set up the hose that came with the machine and the wild fluctuations went away. There are still some subtle fluctuations when I breathe very deep and quickly, which I rarely do while sleeping.
It just shows how much the hose diameter can impact the machine's pressures/sensitivity.
Thanks to everyone,
Randy

The woman was right, you can use your old hose, but you have to tell the machine what size hose you're using, regular (yours) or slimline (the new one).randybassett wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2018 9:13 amI think I figured it out with the feedback from the group.

Here is the manual, so you can see how to change the setting depending on whether you use a slimline or standard hose - https://www.respshop.com/manuals/ResMed ... %20her.pdfrandybassett wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2018 9:13 amSomeone mentioned that hose diameter could be an issue.
