CPAP Chin Strap

Post by Kabuto » Wed Feb 21, 2018 4:50 pm

Hi guys,

I'm trying to find a chin strap for helping treat sleep apnea mouth breathing. Which ones are good?

It's difficult to tell from the Internet: I see this one:
https://www.amazon.com/SP-Medical-Super ... chin+strap
, but I read a negative review saying "The material is itchy (along the side of my face)and the strap caused a dull headache from the pressure of the strapps on my head. If you have long hair , your hair will get caught in the Velcro and get ripped out. It might work for some people but it didn't work for me."

Anyone know of a good chin strap? Is there a better one than this one? Will this improve my sleep quality?

Thanks!

I've used one like the chin strap in the link you posted. Not very comfortable. Now I just sleep without one. I find I prefer a dry mouth to the discomfort of the strap, and my full face mask compensates for any air lost through my mouth.

you might try this rather than a chin strap-

works for me, might work for you. much cheaper than a chin strap. the bands will eventually stretch, but giving them a nice hot washing and drying (by hand) will get them back into shape.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I use the chin strap you linked. I don't really like it, but it's the only one I've tried so far that gets the job done. I don't find it itchy actually... But the Velcro pulling out hair is absolutely correct. I don't have much of a chin, so I have to push it way far forward or it inhibits my ability to breathe, or at least seems like it does. So it goes all the way up to my mouth and it scrunches up my face when it's tight. It digs into my chin and leaves the skin and layers down to the bone tender almost all day. It also slides forward and backwards off my head if my hair is down.
But, after all of that... It's the only one that had kept my mouth closed at night, so until I find a better one, I'm stuck with this.

Like masks, it seems chin straps are kind of a crap shoot. I use and like the Ruby chin strap. Your mileage will vary.
