Dreamstation clinician changes not saving

Post by grumpycamel » Tue Feb 20, 2018 8:21 am

Hi all,
Im a relatively new CPAP user and am starting to feel the benefits of CPAP therapy. I have a Philips Respironics Dreamstation CPAP Pro (fixed pressure) with a humidifier and have been wanting to change some of the settings on the machine.
I have read the clinicians guide obtained from the Apnea Board as previously posted on this forum and have followed the instructions for changing the settings as directed in the manual.
The first time I use the CPAP machine after the changes, the CPAP machine has all the changed settings that I entered. If I stop the CPAP machine and restart it, the settings revert back to the values before the changes.
So currently, each night, I'm having to go into the clinicians menu and entering the changes which is a huge pain in the neck.
Can anyone help me and point out what I'm doing wrong please?
Thank you.

Since you are new to CPAP, perhaps your machine is in contact with the mother ship and they are resetting your treatment parameters.

the settings are probably embedded in the sd card. if you don't care what they think, use a new sd card.

Per Respironics, the machine stores up to six months of data internally, and that would transfer to a new card. I suggest taking out the card tonight before you make the changes, leave it out all day, and then see if it changes back anyhow.

If than doesn't work, remove the modem the next night, leave it out, and see if that fixes the problem. You will find the modem in a compartment similar to the card/filter compartment on the opposite side of the machine.

Try a new/blank SD card if you have one.
If you don't have one erase this one and then make the changes to your machine and put the clean card back in the machine and see if the settings hold or not.

my guess is the setting are in a hidden system file that wouldn't show up and the average person wouldn't think to look for them to delete them. easiest to use a new card or format the present card.

Since six months worth of data are stored in the machine internally (according to Respironics), it's possible that even this file (if it exists) is stored. However, my strongest suspicion is that your provider is resetting it remotely.

I would ask the following:
(1) Does it reset if you take a potty break and turn the machine off?
(2) Is your preferred pressure still active in the AM? If so, turn the machine off in the AM for about 60 seconds, then turn it back on and see if the reset takes place at that point.
(3) On a day when you're home, do periodic checks and see at exactly what time the reset occurs.

Thank you all for your replies and suggestion.
I decided to take the card out and make some changes to the clinicians menu. Lo and behold, the changes stuck. So there must be a file in the SD card which override any changes someone makes manually.
I found the offending prescription file on the card, removed it and used Encore Pro software to create a new prescription file on the card. All previous sleep data was retained.
Seems to work fine so far.

Interesting! I have a Dream Station and have never had this happen. Maybe your DME caused the file to be there initially. I don't think my DME is smart enough ro do that, last time Dr. changed my pressures they couldn't even get the settings right and I had to change it myself. I guess I need to look at Encore Pro and find that setting in there.

It's done with the Encore software but not all DMEs or doctors or whomever supplies the equipment will bother using Encore and the SD card for settings changing. It's a bit of extra work to use the software to change things especially now that we have so much stuff that can be done over the cellular system. So you might be correct about your DME not being smart enough. I can do it but it's a PITA to use the software. I can do it manually in the time it takes Encore to load for me.
It used to be a lot more common than it is now so it doesn't surprise me the your DME didn't do it.

Last time I was at the Dr. I told her the DME wasn't so hot and would she recommend someone else? She told me "Their aren't any good ones".......
