8 months in and NOTHING

Post by MaxINTJ » Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:34 am

Was diagnosed 8 months ago with SDB (most likely UARS). Have had ZERO luck with CPAP. Have done 4 sleep studies and one MSLT.

VA finally gave me an ASV since the CPAP was giving me AHIs that were 6-10 times higher than without CPAP, and CPAP wasn't fixing anything.

Now, it's been over a week with the ASV and it's completely pointless because there is NO WAY I can look at the data.

I was blessed with a Respironics 960 that SleepyHead cannot read data from. I have tried multiple versions of Encore Pro and none of them will install.

So now I have a machine that theoretically can help (with UARS) but no way to know if it's working, or what needs adjusting. I know I don't feel any better.

I just wanted to leave a cheery update so new folks realize it's not always rainbows and unicorns...

It makes it hard to tune your machine, when you can't see the Data. What program will give you the most? You need to get that working for you.
have you got the default settings?
min epap 6 or you min cpap pressure
max epap 20
min ps 3
max ps 20

I'm pretty sure you can use 20 for max. resmed will allow max epap 15

They gave me the machine with EPAP 6-10 and PS 5-10.

I was having trouble catching my breath if the machine went to EPAP pressure while I was trying to inhale, so I raised it to 8-12 and haven't had a problem with it. I left PS at 5-10.

They also had BPM on Auto so I changed it to Off

I have not, and it got my hopes up, but it doesn't say it works with a 960 AutoSV

If it doesn't work, there is a hyperlink on the bottom of the page to contact the author, to get a new machine added. I myself only found this the other day, so I don't know anything about it as of yet.

What are the installation errors you get with encore pro? I know with directview you have to enable old version of Microsoft .NET under optional features in the add/remove programs control panel on Windows 7/8/10.

On EP2.0 I convinced it to get past the SQL error with Compatibility Mode, but that version failed at the next step. With EP2.2, I couldn't get past the SQL error in any way. I think I have more than enough versions of .Net installed, especially since 2.0 did successfully install.

What operating system are you using. Did you try running the installation with administrative privileges? I believe there is an 'Encore Basic' version that doesn't use SQL. You can request a copy on ApneaBoard: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... hines-only

Yes, I also tried by specifically launching it with Admin privileges but it made no difference.

I am running Win 10 Pro so it appears the basic version won't work either, at least according to the link you posted.

" Also, please note that EncoreBasic only works with certain Microsoft Windows computers (32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8). "

Worth a shot to try, and also in compatibility mode, as it still doesn't use SQL AFAIK. I guess you could always dual boot Windows 7, or install it on an extra machine if you have one. I think you can also enable hyper-v in Windows 10, and launch a virtual machine. Never tried that though.

Pain in the butt though. I would push for a return on that machine, and get a ResMed ASV.

No chance of that. Firstly, it's for an off label condition (uars) and secondly, it's the VA, and their contract in my area is with Phillips.

And no, I'm not going to go through the hassle of Hyper-V or dual booting for a stupid piece of software. I do IT for a living, and the last thing I want to do is spend my free time doing what I do for work.

Modern PC games are far more difficult to write and are far more taxing on a PC, yet the vast majority of them run just fine on all sorts of hardware and operating systems. If Phillips can't figure out how to write a simple program that is as compatible as a modern 20 GB game, them doom on them.

Yeah I mean it sucks, but it's your health we are talking about at the end of the day. IMO you may be better off saying screw the sleep doc/dme and just buy a used resmed asv online. If you check the forums you can find a cheap one, or if you just want a reliable machine without scouring for deals, check out secondwindcpap which is ran by a registered respiratory therapist.

From a little outside the box...

Secure a loan from a distant cousin or friend or family member and purchase a machine out of pocket. That way you can pick a machine that works with whatever program you are using.
