Conflicting signals

Post by Josiah » Sat Feb 17, 2018 11:53 am

I finally got around to wearing my CMS50F oximeter last night to see if my oxygen saturation squared with my SH results. They most decidedly did not. Whereas my SH rendering of my ResMed Airsense 10's data showed and exceptionally good night for me with an AHI of .96 the result of a handful of hypopneas. My Sp02 graph showed a forty five minute period when my O2 saturation wildly ocillated between 87% and 96% a total of eight times during the 45 min. During this period SH showed a single 10 second hypopnea. To say I'm a bit disillusioned is to understate my feelings.

Zoom in real close on that wildly changing O2 line and look for gray/black loss of contacts.

This is the best I can do, I'm not using SH to display the CMS50F data This shows the 25 min eruption.

There is a way of zooming in even in the SpO2 software. Doesn't have to be SleepyHead.
It's been a long time since I have done it though and I don't remember how I did it but it can be done.

Another strange finding is that during this 25 minute period when my O2 saturation was fluctuation so wildly my heart rate was totally constant.

Inside the O2 Assistant program, Use the "Help" menu next to "Report" and type in the word zoom.

Yeah....heart rate constant and sudden spikes and drops ....my first thought is loss of contact artifact.
Real desats don't happen that fast and don't go back up that fast.

I would be delighted to blame the unit. I don't have any time to devote to this right now but I'll try another O2 monitoring tonight.

Looking for gray/black looking lines instead of the blue. Gray/black means loss of contact...blue means good contact.
You can only see the very slight changes from blue to gray when zoomed in.
Obviously when the device loses contact and then regains the contact the data gets screwed up. There's a lag time before the machine stabilizes once proper contact is regained.

Let me see if I can find an example somewhere.
I don't have one handy.

The contact between the CWS50F recorder and the cable coming from my finger pulsometer is quite lose that maybe the problem.

Pugsy you've cast enough suspicion on my oximeter to convince me. I'm going to buy another unit and not waste anymore of your time and mine on these results. But your replies have made me a much happier camper. Thanks.

Look for the artifact count on your report. If it is fairly high that also points to probably loss of contact.

To zoom in you click options at top then display parameters and you can set time in there.

The artifact was .02% which doesn't mean much to me.

The most convincing evidence was my rock constant heart rate. I just have to get out of my chair and my heart rate shoots way up. Those huge desaturation events would have had every physiological parameter in my body going bouncing off the wall. Although why did the unit keep recording my heart rate properly while my O2 was going crazy????

I followed USMCVET's suggestion and zoomed in and saw no interruptions in the blue line. ?????
