Card Reader for Philip Respironics SD card

Post by Chalkie » Sat Feb 17, 2018 10:45 am

I am using a Philips Respironics BiPAP S/T C series machine.

I would like to use Sleepyhead to get some feedback on my data.

I of course need a card reader to get the data to my machine.

can anyone recommend a suitable reader, please? What type of data card does this machine use?
Machine: Philips Respironics BiPAP C Series.
Mask: Respironics Comfort Gel Nasal Mask.

Pressure 12-18.

Any card reader will work.

Does your computer not have any slot in it anywhere for the SD card? Most computers will have one but maybe people don't realize the slot is there. If you have a slot...no card reader is necessary.

If no slot and you have to us a USB port then any card reader/adapter will work. Cheap generic from WalMart or similar store will work just fine. Doesn't have to be fancy or expensive.

Where are you located?
And what is the model number on your machine? It's a very special machine and I am unsure if SleepyHead will play nice with the data from that machine...
You will find out soon enough though once you try to upload to SleepyHead. Just wanted to warn you ahead of time so you won't freak out.

If it isn't compatible there is the option for Encore but it's a PITA to install and Windows only.

Am in the UK. My machine is a BiPAP S/T C series INTL 30.

It also states "REF: 10611" on the back.

Thanks for the heads up about Sleepyhead. I think I still have a copy of Encore Pro soimewhere.

Anyway I need a card readaer either way. Still not totally clear exactly what size - unless anyone can confirm I will take the card to my local mobile phone repair shop and I am sure they will let me know.

Your machine uses a standard SD card.

If you need an SD card you can buy any standard SD or SDHC card, I normally buy mine in Tesco’s the cheapest I can find normally about £6-£8 (They are available cheaper on line but often when postage is added etc cost more)

I have a SD slot in my laptop often modern PC’s/Laptops have a standard SD slot without needing an adapter but if you need one Amazon is very cheap and a USB SD Card adapter is less than £5

Something like this

The told me that my DreamStation (which is also a Respironics machine), needs a card of 4GB or less. It can't deal with more. It' can't even use the first 4 GB and ignore the rest; at least not according to what they told me.

I currently have an 8 GB card in my System One BiPap. It works fine with the machine.
I don't have a DreamStation to test things but I am 99.999999999% sure that size won't matter to the machine.
While it may not need larger in terms of file storage capapcity, I am reasonably sure that it will accept larger than 4 GB.

Anyone one out there with a DreamStation machine that happens to have a SD card bigger than 4 GB willing to check my theory?
All we want is to know if the DreamStation will accept the larger card. I am betting it will.

Depending on which version of Encore Pro you might need an updated version if your version has some age to it.
Send me a PM if you run into needing a newer version.

When Mark was writing his various versions of SleepyHead he had to do it with examples from the various machines and he didn't have much in terms of examples from your model of machine and Respironics has been known to change the file structure ever so slightly in some of those high end special machines like yours and SleepyHead may try but it may or may not work well with it.
I had a 960 that was sometimes problematic and sometimes worked perfectly and I know of one 960 user right now that Sleepyhead won't work at all with his machine. It just happens. Nothing we can do about it.
Hopefully you won't have that bad luck. It all depends on the file structure and if Sleepyhead can understand the data files.

The SD Card is of standard size and not a micro size card. The adapter just needs to have one end that will plug into the USB port on your computer and the other end big enough for the SD card to be plugged into.
When in doubt take your SD card with you...easiest and fool proof way to shop.

I use an 8GB card in mine. Not sure what the original one was, one of the contacts was coming lose so I copied it to a new one to use.

Thought I would add that for anyone with a Dreamstation, be careful removing the card. It took me a while to figure out that to remove the card you first push it in to get it to release. Initially I was just pulling mine out and I think that is what messed up my first SD card.

I have a question:

My machine has an SD card too. Can I pop it out and put it into my iMac and see stuff? Will it give me info and stats and tell me HOW well/terrible I am sleeping? I use this DreamMapper app for my iphone that the Philips company said to use.... basically, all it seems to tell me, so far, is how many hours/mins I slept the night before.

I have the DreamStation machine. Can it tell/log if I'm having apneas? Can it tell when I pop the hose off the mask at night and toss it on the bed so I can go pee and when I return and put the hose back on the mask and get back to sleeping?

I'm DYING to know what that silly little SD card is knowing about me. I'm only on Day 7. I'm so curious about it! Should I take it out and put it into my PC and see what's on it?

Unfortunately if you really have the DreamStation CPAP machine it will show you only very limited data.
Can you check the model number?
DSX200xxx is the DreamStation CPAP
DSX400xxx is the DreamStation Pro
DSX500xxx is the DreamStation Auto CPAP.

The DreamStation CPAP only gives a generic AHI (no event category breakdown) and a leak number...and nothing else.
No graphs to know when something got flagged or if you went to large leak territory for how long or how far.
It's a basic bare bones machines. Extremely limited data and I am not sure that SleepyHead will work with it for the limited data.

Awww mannn, I'm so disappointed. I did d/l the SH software, got nowhere with it. Can't find an Encore download anywhere either. So you guys are right--my crappy respironics dreamstation tells me NOTHING, only how many hours I slept! I'm so bummed!
