Post by rzw » Sat Feb 17, 2018 7:29 am

So i'm really having some problems with this.......Any way to help prevent this from happening so much.......is it a pressure issue(high) or the way I might be sleeping on my side, head position etc........Thank you for any thoughts.....

Read this
wiki/index.php/Aerophagia

What machine are you using?
What pressure are you using?
Are you using exhale relief ..if available on your machine?

Yes, it is fairly common and there are some things that can be done to reduce the symptoms.
It can even happen at relatively low pressures for some unlucky people. The valve going from the esophagus into the stomach is a bit weak and it lets air get into the stomach. Sometimes sleeping in a different position might help...sometimes not.
Sometimes adding exhale relief or more of it can help..sometimes not.
Sometimes for really bad aerophagia a different type of machine can be used to help.

welcome, rzw! you've come to the right place and have been answered by one of the most respected members here.

i have nothing much to add to what pugsy has said. i just wanted to sympathize. i spent a long time battling aerophagia. what finally helped ME was finding the right pressure. i'm NOT saying this is what you need. i'm just saying that you can and will find a way around this.

as pugsy says, we need more details. each machine and each person is different. same with masks. so make sure you've provided us with that and the experts here will put you on the right path!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I'm using resmed airsense 10 in auto, setting is 6.4 to 11.8 pressure...No epr, I found it a bit disruptive to overall therapy......

So EPR disrupted therapy?
So how disruptive to your life is the aerophagia?
Which is worse problem?

Are you using available software to see what pressure you actually use during the night?
If not...get it.

Here's the deal. The usual go to for bad aerophagia that can't be manage with the usual stuff is to go to a bilevel machine.
If you use EPR you are effectively creating a little bilevel machine and it might be enough to allow you to have successful therapy and not be so miserable from the aerophagia without having to go to a different machine.

What is it about EPR that you didn't like or found disruptive? What EPR setting did you try?
