resmed mini or motorcycle/camping CPAP?

Post by FriendlyNiceGuy » Fri Feb 16, 2018 11:34 pm

i have a resmed 10 which i had to take on a long motorcycle trip. i powered it off the motorcycle battery for a couple of nights (one night at a time before recharging the battery by riding the bike) and otherwise used it on AC power.

i had high hopes for the resmed mini but have since heard some things about it being quite loud.

i'll be searching the forum here over the next week but would anyone mind helping me out a bit with a CPAP recommendation for motorcyling or camping?

also any experience from forum members who have experience on how many /consecutive/ nights i should be able to get out of a camping CPAP would be great.

thanks in advance

I have a Dreamstation GO with battery. I got 2 nights OF 8 HRS EACH out of the battery, no humidifier being used, pressure 10-12 APAP. I bought it for overseas flight and used it on the plane. It is pretty quiet, compared to the Resmed Airsense 10 Auto. I have the battery that is made to go with it. It is not a tiny setup, about as big and heavy as my Resmed AirSense 10. The battery is what is so heavy. I'm guessing from the pictures, the Resmed mini is much smaller, but it doesn't have a battery specifically for it, so I went with the DS GO. There was someone on here who has one and If I remember, was wanting to sell it (Airmini). QueSera is the poster name. You could PM her if it is still for sale.

I've camped, slept on a boat several times, and slept on a few international flights with by DeVilbiss Intellipap auto, using the Freedom lithium ion battery. I usually have 30-40% of the battery left after a night (my pressure runs 13ish). The only negative was having to use the humidifier as a passover rather than heated, since you can't run the heater on the 12v input. The Freedom battery is great as it's roughly the size of a paperback book, and only a couple pounds.

I've since upgraded my travel rig to an AirMini, which, aside from being a touch dry in REALLY dry climates, has been awesome. There is a bit more air noise, but it doesn't bother me, and my wife's fine with it. I'm just hoping that Resmed starts shipping the 12V converter for the AirMini (the unit itself is 24V), otherwise I'm going to have to either live with the efficiency loss of an inverter, or buy one of the 24V battery units. Honestly, if you can live with the noise of the AirMini, it's about the perfect bike/camp/boat CPAP, given the humidity module and small size. I took my old respironics machine on multiple 1 week bike trips 5-8 years ago, and would have given anything to have a CPAP that small back then.
