pressure change and upcoming sleep study

Post by nawchem » Fri Feb 16, 2018 4:18 pm

I changed the pressure from 11 to 13, I no longer take 9 naps a day. I still feel tired but it's only been 2 days since I got over the flu and started cpaping again. I have terrible stress and insomnia, hopefully, life will be better in 3 weeks.

I am trying to get a good attitude about my sleep study. I have numerous things on the net I use to fall asleep at least 15 years but they say I can use nothing with noise. I don't put my phone on the net, I don't want to feed the addiction.

I will have to go 2 nights for the first 4 hours I have no sleep events so far tested. Its in an exam room in a twin bed shoved against the wall and a creepy looking long furry grey comforter that looks like it came out of a trash can. I am going to pretend they clean and disinfect everything.

Any suggestions on how to get a great study?

I'm sure others with more experience will post shortly, but I've done two sleep studies and one bi-level titration and for me a couple of things helped. I arrived early so that I was the first to be wired up and put to bed, this gave me more time to relax.

I brought my own bed pillow and mask/headgear. Since my mask and headgear were already adjusted, it meant no leaks. It might help with the cleanliness issue too.

Since I did not drop into REM sleep in the 2 earlier sleep studies, my sleep doc recommended that I pull an all-nighter the night before the titration. Also, no naps the day of the titration. It was hard, but I fell asleep in about 20 minutes and only woke once. Of course, that's just one experience. It could go completely different on a different day.

Best of luck on your study.

The only times that I missed any nights in the last eighteen years was in a 2003 power failure, half of a night in Hurricane Sandy, and when flying internationally. I can't remember not using the machine due to a cold or flu. I do remember once working from home with a bad cold and leaving the machine on with the mask attached while working on my computer (that was before I needed reading glasses). I was able to suppress my cough that way rather than with cough medicine.

D.H. has the "need" to let every poster know how long he has been on cpap and how well he is doing. If you take notice, just about every post he makes he mentions that he has been at this for XXX number or years or he started cpap in XXXX
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Yep. Works the same. You get the "so and so said something and they are on your Foe list"
"click here if you wish to   sneak and see what they said"

Does anyone know what the "Friend" list actually does? I have never figured that out.

don't have an afternoon sleep before the study. Have a busy day so you are tired. If you think you will be anxious, you could ask the doctor for a pill.

Thanks for the advisement. I have a final exam on Friday/sleep study on sat. So I'll probably be quite tired. They said not to use my cpap for 2 nights before the study also. I just have a weird sleep cycle that I wake up after 4 hours, stay awake several hours. So awake I used to go running, sometimes have a small coffee- the creamer seems to make me sleepy. So I'll probably be climbing the walls, but I shouldn't anticipate. Staying up all night can only help.

Maybe because I have asthma the coughing is just impossible for me to use cpap. This flu was rather intense I had a fever for 5 days and slept day and night. I confess I didn't take any cough medicine just ice cream.

I understand completely nawchem! The bugs that are circulating out there this year are quite nasty!

I just had mine and they had box fan that I used for white noise. I also took melatonin, many here disagree with my dosage but if I want to sleep I take 12 mg. My sleep onset was 12 minutes lol.i felt like I didn't sleep that well at mine. I had a 84% sleep efficiency which blew me away.

Another I do is count down from 100 slowly. On slow inhale I say ninety , on slow exhale I say nine. So on and so forth. Trick is to catch your mind from drifting and focus on breathing and the numbers.

Good luck!

" sleep performance anxiety."

how they use to treat that was to hook you up in a lab and every time you went to sleep, they'd wake you up and do it all night. It taught the body how to go to sleep with a reasonable onset time.
