SleepWeaver Cloth Mask - a few questions

Post by QueSera » Sun Feb 11, 2018 10:51 am

I’m still in search of a great mask with minimal leaks, and I’m thinking of trying the SleepWeaver 3D nasal mask. If anyone out there has experience with this, or maybe a different cloth mask, I’m wondering

1. How do you clean these? If I hand wash in laundry detergent (as suggested), how long does it take to dry?

2. Leaks: more, or fewer, than other masks?

3. Good fit or bad fora small-ish head?

Thanks

[Yes, follow the directions. If you gently squeeze out excess water in a clean towel,
a hairdryer on medium will finish the job very quickly.]

2. Leaks: more, or fewer, than other masks?

[The fit is different, and an individual matter]

3. Good fit or bad fora small-ish head?

[I don't know if that model comes in a small--the elan does]

Thanks

Like most masks, some people love SleepWeavers and others don't seem to be able to use them at all. I am one of the folks who love them. I use the original mask design. For me they are extremely comfortable and I very rarely have problems with leaks. Sleepweaver tells you to wash them and shows you how on their website. They make a big deal out of it. I put mine in a lingerie bag (so the velcro does stick to the other clothes) and throw it in the washing machine with a regular load of dark clothing. I try to remember to pull it out before I throw the laundry in the dryer but about a third of the time I forget. Last week I accidentally dried it on high heat for 40 minutes. It looked like a wadded up mess when I got it out, but I straightened it out. It still works fine. I usually wash mine once a week. I have used the same mask and wash routine since March of 2016. The headgear is just about worn out, but it still is serving me well.
It can take some fussing to get it adjusted right when you first start using the Sleepweaver The masks come with a good video (also available on their web site) that shows you how to adjust and care for the mask.
When I used conventional masks I had trouble with strap marks and pressure sores on my face and inside of my nose. Because they are cloth, there are no such problems with Sleepweavers.
I have a smallish to average head for a man. I wear a 7 1/8 hat size. If you are a female with a small head, there is a small version of one of the Sleepweaver styles.
Sleepweavers are frequently on sale with a money back guarantee if they won't work for you.
Best wishes,
GordieK

I used the SleepWeaver elan nasal mask for a while. I found that it was comfortable and pretty easy to use once I figured it out, but whether a mask works for you or not is very individual. What works for me may or may not work for you. No more leaks than other masks that I've used and liked. Being a side sleeper, I was surprised how tolerant of moving around that it was. It took a while to get it fitted right and get a feel for it, the fitting and use videos on youtube were very helpful, along with the information that comes with the mask. Unfortunately, due to what was going on with my nose, I had to move on to the TAP PAP mask, or I would have stayed with it. There was a free 30-day mfr's return program for any of the SleepWeaver masks, so if that's still true, it doesn't cost you anything (other than return shipping if it doesn't work out, as I recall) to try their masks.

So I'd say if you'd like to try SleepWeaver masks, and they are very different than any others that I've used, go ahead and give it a try. If it works out, and mask choice is very personal, then great.
