Will Cpap help me?
Will Cpap help me?
Hello all,
Wondering if CPAP is good machine for me if my problem is breathing out. I did a PFD test and it seems i have trouble breathing out and I have minor lung disease. Also when I snore, I snore as I am breathing out. Will a CPAP machine still help me? Or should I be using another type.
thanks for the help.

Were you diagnosed with an obstructive lung disease, such as COPD? There are exhalation relief settings on CPAP but you may want to ask your doctor about bi-level as well. Were you diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea?

I did the take home auto cpap test. and a pfd test. They never said anything about obstructive sleep apnea, although it sounds like something I prolly have. I noticed when using the machine that I was still snoring when breathing out. I've always woken up with my uvulary gland really swollen wondering if cpap will help that or not.

A red and swollen uvula can be caused by GERD - the stomach contents irritate the uvula. In many people, GERD is caused by untreated obstructive sleep apnea. So, using a CPAP might help with the uvula problem.richac wrote:I've always woken up with my uvulary gland really swollen wondering if cpap will help that or not.
Has your doctor taken a look at your uvula when it was swollen?

No but I went to the emergency room once years ago before I realized it was from snoring. They just kind of laughed at me. Said not much to do about it except cut it shorter. At the time I thought I drank too much beers and had an allergic reaction to it. But its happens alot now and usually happens when i'm really tired and pass out for a couple hours lying on my back.
I do have chronic acid reflux i take prylosec for.
Re: Will Cpap help me?
Stop sleeping on your back - it provokes any potential apneas and makes you snore a lot more.

see your doctor, get diagnosed, a sleep study and assessed for proper treatment. but in answer to your question. a bpap makes it easier to breath if you have a copd etc. You raise the min epap till the obstruction stops on inhale and have enough epap and PS or difference to treat the apnea.
If the obstructive copd etc isn't too bad, they will just use a cpap and have the min pressure high enough to stop the obstruction on inhale and be high enough to stop apnea and such.
the auto machine wont see the obstruction on exhale and it needs to be manually min pressure set.

for your gerd,
google lchf
raise the head of the bed 4-6" by putting on bricks, this puts the bed on a slope and helps a lot with the reflux part

CPap is only good for if you have sleep apnea. The best advice is to listen to what your doctor says. And if you have apnea you need to have a sleep study and be diagnosed to know for sure.
